Final a heck of game. A valent effort by the Lions without Spurlock. The Tomcats had to play with a lot of foul trouble. It is the Tomcats 7th straight 16th region championship and the 4th straight 16th region title over the Lions in the title game. Zander Carter was not going to let the Tomcats lose this game!

Carter definitely put the Tomcats on his back in the 2nd half. Childers was a beast for Boyd, 29 points.
Both teams played tremendous defense in this game I thought. Congrats to Ashland!

Kinda feels like Ashland is backing into the S16, now. I know it’s their biggest rival, on the biggest local stage. And, they deserve credit for winning on an off night. But, this game wasn’t encouraging & if they play like this in Lexington they will get embarrassed. Honestly, if Clarke, who isn’t known as a shooter, doesn’t have a career night & hit FOUR first half 3s, Ashland would likely be done, IMO. Best wishes to Spurlock for a quick recovery. I agree. I didn’t like the way Ashland defended Boyd’s big kid whatsoever. After a few easy buckets Bonner should have made some adjustments. But alas, the still won the game. But not making some kind of defensive strategy changes on Childress made it much closer than it should have been.

I agree on all counts. I think the game plan was to guard the three and slow Childers down just enough. I would have made him work harder with Zander and some double teams but coach Bonner has forgot more about basketball than I know. They still won. This was the most impressed I've been with Boyd County. Great bunch of kids and in the end the rivalry is friendly with the players. It's us fans and adults that have taken this thing the wrong direction over the years. I pray a quick recovery for Jacob. He's such a talent and a true competitor.

I noticed that as well. Boyd had 4 on the All Tourney team and Ashland had 3. Very unusual. I actually don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen.

The Carter County Coyotes will be in the mix in 2028 and they will boast the largest school in the region, with a lot of history between their two schools.

Kudos to Coach Bonner and the Tomcats. The keyboard warriors can say this and that but the bottom line is the best team on a given night wins. 7 regional titles in a row is impressive. There is no question in my mind that Ashland's tough schedule helped win this year's title. Others may argue but Ashland's willingness to schedule tough out of the region games help with their in-region games.

Some coaches chase easy wins and in turn are not really for the tournament while others schedule up with the intent of preparing for the tournament. In my opinion, the best two schedules in the 16th Region were played by Ashland and Boyd. Best of luck to Ashland in the Sweet Sixteen and I hope for a speedy recovery for Spurlock.

The Middle School conference that I have ran for over 20 years Boyd Co. had the best 7th grade team and Ashland had the best 8th grade team this year and two of their 8th graders did not even play middle school. Also Raceland has a very good 7t hand 8th grade teams.

Best team didn’t win that game. Spur stays in after questionable play puts him out for 3/4 of the game BC wins by 15-20 easily. Ashland had no answer for childers for sure and he should have charged kids a price for all the piggy back rides he gave the entire night. Officials played a significant role in APB winning that game.

I will say I did see they did play 1 kid from APB who actually lives there. Lyons kid. Kiddos for him for not allowing the staff to run him off and recruiting around him. Like he does with everything else when comes to recruitment issues as well. Now it’s breaking the bylaws of friend/mentor! Biggs let him have it in a phone conversation with Both Lee and Bonner and told them they are cheaters and that why they get no respect and teams hate them. Also to never reach out to him again for anything. Sounds like a great program. You can’t even make this crap up. I stood shaking my head when I heard it.

I feel as if having to explain the most elementary rules to a bunch of Ashland arrogant individuals who think the rules don't apply to them. Just everyone else. I bet Fanman is well aware of this rule. He tends to be the only one that will look it up when mentioned.

What street does Childers live on in South Point?  lol.  All of Ashland can tell you… The thing is they don’t care.  They don’t cry to the KHSAA.  They coach their kids.  They don’t record conversations and follow players and their parents home after practices.  They conduct themselves like adults.  They don’t use mind games on kids to try and win games. If we all had a nickel for everytime you typed the word “recruit” on this site, we could buy a KHSAA state tournament ticket packet and go watch the DOMINANT 7X Regional Champs in Lexington!  You are genuinely obsessed with Ashland. Move on.  You have been shopping your kid around for next year anyway.  I know the coaches.
