15th Region Final: Lawrence County vs Martin County (3/11)
#1
These teams did not meet up in the regular season. Let’s hear some predictions.
#2
If Martin County plays at potential, no one in this region is within 10 points of them even at their best.
With that being said, anything can happen

Prediction: MC by 12
#3
MC to Rupp.

LC is hot right now, but MC is an anomaly. They're just too good at everything. Probably the best basketball team in the 15th since the SV Elisha Justice team.

You think this team is better than the 2022 Pikeville Team?
#5
Martin County is and has been the best team all year. I think they win tonight by 10+ unless Lawrence County catches fire.
#6
Gotta admit, MC is fun to watch.
#7
This game will come down to defense. Whichever team can get the crucial stops and 50/50 balls. Don’t know which way to lean. Lawrence has overcame an obstacle of a course to be here and Martin has “played with their food” along the way, making it look easy. This game is too close for me to call. I will say I think one team does take 10-12 point lead at some point but the win margin will only be 5-8 points. Going to say score prediction 76-71.

That's a good question. Would be an amazing head to head matchup between Watts and Samons, for sure. That Pikeville team probably had the size advantage and played better defense, were definitely more disciplined, but this MC team is probably faster and more explosive offensively. IDK though, would be a great game to watch!
#9
MC is the better team. If LC shoots lights out then This one could be close.
#10
I hope Martin Co rolls in this one! Fun team to watch!

They are good and heavily the favorite but I don't see them beating the 2022 Pikeville team. They lost in the elite 8 to GRC by 4 or 5 points. They had athletes and loved to guard. They would beat this Martin team. And I'm some others would because of how undisciplined they are. They are beating everyone because the region is down talent wise right now. They choose what possessions they want to guard they jack up crazy shots randomly. Sometimes they go in and sometimes they let teams hang around that shouldn't.

If Lawrence decides to really guard and contain the drive on Watts and make him settle for contested 3's then they have a shot. But they have to play with more intensity than what Floyd Central did last night. They let him do what he wanted to do and he got too comfortable and that's when he hits those crazy deep 3's. Lawrence can not stop everything they do but if they can limit him and not let Peyton Davis get wide open looks they will give themselves a chance.

why are you even talking about a team from 2022? Was the thread called" lets relive our glory days?"

I commented on someone comparing them to the 2010 SV team but underneath that I gave what I thought about this game. I wasn't the one that brought it up. You sound a little salty though. I guess your team is not playing tonight.

Martin County is the better team, but gotta say I’m rooting for Lawerence. The style of these two teams is similar but the athleticism is not. Parker Watts is as good as it gets in the 15th. Should be a fun one!!
#15
I just hope we get to see a good game and neither gets in early foul trouble. It’ll come down to rebounds and turnovers. If LC gets lazy with the ball, Martin could jump out to a 20 point lead early and keep it all game. If Martin starts jacking up bad shots and fails to get second chance points, Lawrence can jump out to a big lead in a hurry as well. The Bulldogs seem to be in shape, but they’ll have to go 100% the entire game with mostly 6 players to have a chance.

I think MC lets them hang around too long, but as long as they aren’t in any real foul trouble, they’ll win by anywhere from 5-15 points. If Lawrence is hot from 3 and can cause chaos without fouls, they can pull the upset.
#16
I hope the officials are not part of the outcome.
#17
Give me Martin County by 10+. This team seems to be rolling at the right point of the year.

Same.

I hope it’s close enough that the calls matter, and that the officials get them right.

I could see it getting chippy. Hope we don’t see any ugly scenes play out. Just good basketball and an undisputed outcome.

Yup, I think the refs will need to get this game under control pretty early without taking over the game and getting everyone in foul trouble. Both teams are full of very good football players, so this one will definitely be physical and chippy.

I’d say the kids know each other too. Louisa and Inez are pretty close. That could be good or it could be bad.

Watts, Perry, Kaden Johnson, and Caden Muncy all went to grade school together at Crum. Featheroff played little league ball with all them. Davis and Dials played with them at different times. I’d say they know each other really well.

Dang, they go way back.  Does WV basketball suck that bad that they didn’t want to stay over there?  I know Watts went to Tolsia, but can Crum kids typically go to Tolsia or Tug Valley if they choose?  That could’ve been an unreal deep TV team.  They’re pretty good already

i can tell you who's not playing tonight! That would be PIKEVILLE 2025. Not salty in the least.

In my opinion, Lawrence has to find a way to shut down the “other” guys. Watts is going get his 30 and you aren’t going to stop it but they have to find a way to not let Davis and Dials sneak open for those easy look 3’s. Those are just daggers when you are trying to stay in the game with Martin. Lawrence is undersized but all their kids block out well and attack rebounding. They have to make Martin Co work for shots and not get into an AAU game with them. I think it’s a tall task for Lawrence but wouldn’t it be something if they came all the way back and won this region after losing a first Round district game. I’m like you guys and hopeful of a good clean game this evening.
And yes Watts is one of the most athletic kids I’ve seen in this region in a while, probably should’ve gotten player of the year.

Not denying that MC is good, but we gotta think about the competition level of the region this year. This is arguably the worst the region has been in the last 25 years.
#28
I'll take my Bulldogs by 3 points. Both teams are hot right now.
I think coach Thompson draws something up to take the big cards down!! Both teams have alit of speed. I just think Lawrence is gonna be more hungry for this one
#29
Martin county 68-65
#30
From an offensive standpoint, if there’s a team that can match MC’s shooting and pace it’s Lawrence. If MC’s defense from the FC game last night shows up then Lawrence battles until the end. I think the biggest question is if the Lawrence defense that showed up against PC comes back tonight. If it does, how does Martin handle it?

Personally, I think MC ends up winning by 7-10 but it’ll be a battle.
