Throughout the season BGR will be doing a top 5 from areas around the state as decided upon the staff. The results will be posted each Sunday evening.
The 3 areas are West/Southern Kentucky (Regions 1-5), Central/Metro Kentucky (Regions 6-12) and Eastern Kentucky (13-16)
Staff casts votes for the top 5 in each area. A first place vote gets 5 points, a second place gets 4, third place gets 3, fourth place gets 2 points, and a fifth place vote gets 1 point. The rankings then go by highest points per area voted upon.
First week voting results are as follows....

I'd have LexCath at #2 in the Central

Is South Laurel consiered part of East Ky? If so IMO they should probably be in the top 5.

Lol the central rankings are bogus...Lex Cath should be #1 or at the least be #2...they beat Mason Co.

I think they were voted on before the Mason/Lex Cath game.

Lexington Catholic is playing well but watch out for Bryan Station. Tourney time is going to be extremely interesting.

You're kidding, right?
If you really believe that Valley couldn't compete with Paintsville, I think the better question should be, have you seen Shelby Valley play?
Most objective observers would agree that the two teams would be fairly evenly matched, although Shelby Valley is currently ranked higher due to having a couple of high-profile wins.

the only reason that paintsville would win is because they are more experienced
blake bundy has been starting since his 8th grade year, so has jd vanhoose. landon slone and shane grimm have been starting since their freshmen year. shane grimm couldn't play his 8th grade year because he got held back in 8th grade and landon wasn't at paintsville yet. justin murray just transfered this year. i am not sure how long he started on johnson central though.

Ok, that sounds more reasonable. It sounds completely different to say you think Paintsville will beat Shelby Valley, than to say SV can't even compete with them.
If you think the Tigers will win due to having more experience, that's fine. They very well may win, these are two evenly matched teams.

Question: I have or am not attempting to show favoritism but Shelby Valley clearly has great ranked wins and deserves the ranking they have. On that note, Paintsville has lost to the #1 ranked team in WV (at the time) and possibly (at some point since they beat Mason Co.) the number #2 ranked team in the state of Kentucky. How and who have JBS, Corbin and Elliott Co played as far as rankings from KY or any other state goes? I do know Elliott has pretty much rolled on everyone until the Lex Cath Tourney but I thought they had only played in state teams. JBS was beat by Lex Cath and so was Paintsville. I have no idea about Corbin at all. I am only asking since I am from the real geographic part of Eastern Kentucky. I would love to see Paintsville ( Johnson County) and Shelby Valley (Pike Co.) being one and two on this list, no matter who is in either position. Please explain? I truly do not know.
