Prestonsburg vs. Lawrence Co. 58th District Championship 2/26
#1
Championship game is set for tonight at Betsy Layne.

Lady Blackcats finds themselves back in the championship game as they defend their title.

Lady Bulldogs look to get back on top after their 4-peat run ended last season.

Who's everyone got?

Adkins was unstoppable for LC

Game was fun to watch, that’s for sure.

Proud to be a Blackcat!

Neither of these teams deserved to lose this one. Both played extremely hard and with great passion. Probably the most entertaining girls basketball game I've seen in a long time!

Pburg probably wins this game with a healthy Prater. She's been battling that knee injury for a long time now and she hurt it again last night and was just unable to play. I hate it for her. She works extremely hard and was a great leader for that team.

Adkins and Patton at LC are extremely good. Congrats, Dawgs!

Was in attendance for this one, and I'll have to say this was by far the worst officiated game I have ever seen. I understand refs are human, they are going to miss calls, make bad calls and no one is ever happy with them, but last night was just blatant disregard for the players on the court. A Pburg fan was threw out for speaking the truth, basically said to the refs is if this keeps up someone is going to get hurt, didn't cuss or even rush the court, what happened? Someone got hurt, happened to be one of Pburg's best players, like the post above me said, young lady has been dealing with a knee injury for most of the season but have to give her all the credit in the world for continuing to play at the time last night it didn't look like she'd be back. had to be carried off the court but she did come back and into the game, ultimately fouled out in the 4th.

I'm hardly ever one to blame the refs, but I will say last night that there were bad calls and missed calls both ways, but Pburg absolutely got hosed, and I have no dog in the fight. It was a very physical game, several instances that I seen tripping or trying to take a player out at the knees, hard collisions that didn't get called, then the last play of the game an intentional foul was called on Prestonsburg for? tripping, and that basically sealed the game.

The Adkins girl is the real deal, that was pretty much the gameplan, let her get all her points and let the rest of the team beat you, and even tho I have ALWAYS hated this saying, but it truly was 8-5 last night.

Congrats to Lawrence on getting back to the top here in the 58th, 5 out of the last 6 championships now I do believe.

Congrats to Prestonsburg & coach Kidd on a hard-fought effort, and best of luck to both teams moving forward into the regional tournament.

Refs were rough.

Calls weren’t one sided, but I do remember Pburg either being down 1 or 2, Lafferty gets a steal and is headed for a lay up and she blatantly gets her leg grabbed and is pulled down and nothing was called. I jumped off my couch in anger at that one. Losing that possession and possible points was brutal.

You can tell when a team loves their coach and is bought in to whatever he says. It's a true joy to watch Pburg's girls play because they ain't the most talented team in the world but they play their absolute tails off and never quit no matter what. That's a true sign of a great culture!

I had typed out a post about the officiating earlier but deleted it because it felt like being a sore loser, but since two other posts have been made about it then I’ll post it as well. There’s one official in particular that I’ve seen officiate about 20 games this year both boys and girls and he’s been terrible every single time. Wildly inconsistent and willfully blind. This game was terribly officiated from beginning to end but it got way worse in the 4th. The game was tied with about 4 and a half minutes on the clock when a Pburg girl stole the ball and was taking it for an easy layup and the LC girl fell on her foot and knocked her down, no foul called, then LC scoops up the ball on a counter fast break and scores an easy layup. This felt like the deciding play in the game and Pburg never really recovered from it. Idk how Brandon Kidd didn’t get thrown out of the game after that because I was watching from my house yelling at the TV like it was a UK game. I can’t imagine how he felt standing right there watching it happen.

As far as the officiating, it was bad, and bad both ways. I have seen some high school football games that weren't that physical. Prestonsburg may have come up short, but this team played their hearts out and Prater has a heart of a champion. I just have one question, what in the hell was Lawrence County's coach wearing? You talk about trying to stand out!

I think the popular terms I heard last night and seen around Facebook:

"Disco ball"
"John Travolta"
"Saturday night fever"

But she definitely stood out like a sore thumb, she's trying to be like Kim Mulkey from LSU.
