Belfry Coaching Search
#1
With the sadness of Coach Haywood’s passing behind us, who will the Pirates turn too?

Will they do an actual coaching search or will someone already on staff get promoted?

Been hearing a lot of talk about a Varney guy being the man…
#2
no search...... i was told coach haywood had made it known either in writing or some other way that it was his wishes that matt varney to take over

due to that i will not say any thing about my thoughts on the hire i made my opinions clear following the season ending debacle last year

what i will say is that i wish him the best and he has a great team to take on 2a with in year one...... win one for coach haywood

Who told you the sadness is behind us? You deciding when it's ok for everyone to talk about Belfry football again and now deeming the sadness over was and is just an awful look. smdh

i considered touching on the poor word choice there but i didnt want to mistake ignorance for malice and i dont think he meant harm

No harm at all.

I should have worded it differently. My apologies.

And it was talked about amongst the admins of the site about holding off on the threads for a month.

There won’t be a hiring search. It’s already a done deal just waiting for it to be announced.
If you need any assistance or want to report a problem feel free to PM me and we will get it taken care of!  Thank you for choosing to be apart of the BGR community!

If that's the case, I respect Coach Haywood's decision but Matt Varney better let someone coach the defense because he has lacked a TON to be desired for sure.

This is your 11th post..and you’ve already made a derogatory comment about an individual who has not served in the role of head coach yet.  Show some decency and Give it a rest.    Pitiful.

I wish nothing but the best for the Belfry program and whomever steps in.
Those are huge shoes to fill no doubt but considering the situation, I think keeping it in house in absolutely the right decision. Those kids need some familiarity going forward this season which is surely going to be very emotional for the kids, coaches and the entire community. Good luck fellas, this guy will be rooting for you.

Kinda makes me sad just clicking on a Belfry thread. What a loss it's been for all KY sports fans. It's still hard to process. I'll be rooting for Belfry all season. Btw, I don't think the OP meant any disrespect, whatsoever. Good luck to the next Belfry coach. Impossible shoes to fill.

This is a very odd subject to think about but since we are on it. Im suprised David Jones hasn’t been tooken into more serious consideration but if true about coach’s wishes i cant say i blame Belfry.

Jones will always be a Belfry legend and holds a special place in the hearts of Belfry fans...
With that said Jones has had one winning season as a Head Coach and is coming off a 3-win season at Mingo Central playing less than difficult competition.

His .500 seasons at Phelps were certainly respect worthy as not many people can muster a .500 record at Phelps, but all that to be said, Jones is yet to show he has the trajectory so far to show the stability or the victories against higher levels of competition to suggest he could take over at a program like Belfry. He is still young in his coaching career and learning though.

I wish Dave success and hope he can find the momentum he had as he first entered into coaching at Bourbon County.

Tale of two sides here.

#1 Nobody outside of the Belfry community gets this job. Pike County 4 Pike County.

#2 Who wants this job? You never want to follow the legend.
#18
again not to stir it up or anything but the who wants this job thing couldnt be more wrong......... alot and i mean lot of darn good coaches were asking around

What will new Superintendent think? First time in a very long time Belfry isn't going to be taken care of a pro-Belfry Superintendent. Pike County Political Machine is real friends. Assuming all is well, I stand by my original points.

The wounds and hurt are still there and only time will ease them.

The new coach will be announced soon. They are waiting for an appropriate time which will be after school goes back and the tragedy of the flooding is more under control.

The decision of a new coach has been determined let's say for quite a long time. It was never "official", but lots of people knew who they thought it would be. This is not about any Pike County politics, but about continuity within a program. Belfry will have a very experienced team with about 90% of their productivity returning on both sides of the ball. They will have a 4 year starter at QB and 2-3 year starters and other 4 year starters all over. A total new system would not benefit them next year IMO. This new coach and the team will need lots of support. A lot of the players have struggled with this loss and I cannot even imagine how it will be when they head to East Carter for the first real game and then face Central at BHS the next week.

You still fail to see that a discussion regarding X’s and O’s is simply not appropriate at this juncture.  Unbelievable.
