12/17: Martin Co vs Shelby Valley
#1
Another great one this week as the Shelby Valley Wildcats travel to Inez to take on the cardinals. The Cards are coming off of a statement win by beating pikeville at pikeville. I saw Coach Matt Taylor at this game and wonder what he’s gonna try and do to take down the Cards. But I think if Martin Co plays defense like they did and also have Davis and dials’ shooting, Watts will get his, and Maynard and Estep do their thing, Shelby Valley won’t be no match for them.

Martin Co- 81
Shelby Valley- 70

Martin county wins big in this one. This will be a repeat of the pikeville game for martin. Too much athleticism for valley to keep up with the cardinals.

Think Martin Co will win this one, but think it'll be closer than what some people may be thinking or predicting.

Valley seems to be well coached, and no doubt that Taylor gets the best out of his guys and they play their asses off. But Martin Co seems to put themselves above the rest of the pack a few weeks into the season now.

Shelby Valley will make this one interesting. Give me Martin County in a close one 75-70 but I can see this one going the other way too.

I think Martin is better, but if they come out flat with an emotional hangover from the Pikeville win then Valley can play with them. Valley is scrappy, fast and plays tough defense and they can jump on Martin if they come out flat. Valley has proven that they can beat good teams with the JC win last week. Could be a trap game at home for Martin Co, I think.

Valley is a very discipline team well coached and very athletic They played their tail off and give everything they’ve got with that being said Martin County is on a different level and should win this but you can’t count valley out. Keys to the game…. You have to shut down Watts and keep them off the glass also the 3pt line. Can’t let martin county score over 65 because your team can’t score like they can. Brady johnson has to have a good game as well as others. Give me MC 68 Valley 61

Martin could win by 20 or they can lose by 5 depending on who shows up.

I’ll take
Martin 85
Shelby Valley 68

Personally I think Martin takes this one by a long shot. Valley can’t matchup with martins length and athleticism. Watts is a heck of an athlete but until he learns to take smarter shots and be more disciplined he could make or break a game. Logan Johnson for valley could contain him if he plays it right.

I like my hometown boys the Cards in this one. Excited to see the outcome. Taylor is a great coach and it’s going to be a good matchup

Could see it going either way depending on who brings the energy early. Valley is an energetic team while you never know what Martin county will do. If Martin county plays defense like they did at perry central then they lose but if they play like they did at pikeville then they win 20+

I think Martin County wins this one by around 10, but I think Shelby Valley keeps it close most of the game.

I’ve changed my opinion. Coach Matthew gets more out of his players than I have ever seen. I have valley winning this one 65-59

I can see Martin overlooking valley and then they come out out and keep the lead

Mc- 73
Valley- 76

Valley’s competitive culture will keep them in this game until the 2nd quarter, by half I think MC pulls away and it gets ugly by the 3rd and is over then.

85-72 Martin

Martin ain’t looking over anyone no more. They saw how good it felt to beat a good team like pikeville and want to keep that going.

I’ll take the upset. Valley in a close one. Coach Taylor is the real deal.

Martin Co went out and left no doubt who the kings of the region are.  Won by almost 40 with a running clock the 4th quarter.

Kings of the region? We are 4-7 games in. Wait until February before you say so
