13th Region news
#1
I’m hearing Evan Ellis from whitley county quit the team recently. He is one of the best young players in the region. Anybody else hear anything?

Given that coaches seldom update the Khsaa, It’s not very reliable. In the past girls or boys, they leave Whitley they show up at either Bell or Corbin. I know he isn’t at Corbin. Maybe the kid needed a break, seemed like his dad(?) was on him pretty hard in the stands last year the times I saw them play

That’ll be entertaining to watch. Corbin coaches going to have a lot of balancing to do with who takes the shots.

Things could get more and more interesting for the Hounds. When football season ends at Danville in few weeks, Coach P will have some nice additions. In addition to his son, Coach P might be the beneficiary of a couple of WV kids--- Mason Salmons and Malachi Brown. I wish the Cima kid would hit the hardwood but I hear it's not gonna happen. Wish he would, though. Great athlete, good size.

I agree. The Malachi Brown kid is a decent bball player from what ive heard and another big athletic body. They have a good nucleus already with Eli and Akins. If the other thing pans out i project they will be a region favorite.

the times I saw them play the dad was definitely a factor. I don’t see that going over well at Corbin. Coach P won’t put up with that. Kid is a heck of a player. Not sure about if he’ll be eligible but if he does get eligible things just got a lot more interesting for the Hounds

Lol I have to tread lightly on that subject buttttttttt if its not addressed their will be issues with MULTIPLE dads. If you know, you know. Best of luck to the kid though-tough competitor. Tony does a great job with the kids

Brown was rated in the top 15 in his class in WV hoops.  Great hands and footwork. Salmons is a great athlete and a nice player , as well. I think if all of that comes together, Corbin has to start being at least in the conversation with South and HC in the top tier.

Now you add Ellis from WC to the mix. Awfully lot of shooters for only one ball. Brown is a very raw Dakota Patterson from a couple of years ago, he will not start for the hounds in my opinion. Going from Middleschool to banging with more mature kids is a big ask for him--that being said though their is only 2 bigs in the 13th this season with more size. But in my opinion even with the adds its SL and HC way ahead. No answers for Mabe at SL or Huff at HC. Of course Tony can put a plan together with the best of em......and you have a couple of officials in the 13th who always want to be seen so you never know. Good luck to all of them, glad season is back!

Per the Courier Journal annual Statewide coaches poll, SL and HC both crack the preseason top 25. Along with Ashland they were the only teams from the 12-16th regions to make it.
