Lane Kiffin to Florida???
#1
Completely spitballing here, but what are the odds that Lane Kiffin is Florida's next coach?

Florida is a better job than Ole Miss for a few reasons:

- stronger recruiting base,

- more funding,

- better facilities, especially once the practice facility that's currently in progress is complete,

and

- you don't have to deal with negative recruiting associated with Ole Miss' not-so-subtle references to 'Rebels' and other Confederate imagery.

The Gators would be smart to go after Kiffin, but would they be able to put together a package that would persuade him and/or is Lane holding out for another shot in the NFL?

I really like this question.

I can't predict the future, but I'll say no for now. I think it depends on how this season goes. If Kiffin takes this team to the expanded playoff, then I say he stays at Ole Miss. In this scenario, why would Kiffin leave a team with playoff potential for a program that needs significant rebuilding. By rebuild, I don't just mean in the team's structure, but the culture as well. I see your point that Florida has the means to be great in the future. It absolutely does, but it won't have the immediate success that Kiffin might enjoy at Ole Miss.

Also, if Kiffin goes to Florida there will be an intense pressure to succeed. Frankly, he just doesn't have that at Ole Miss. If he produces many seasons with a high win count, then he should be safe. I think at some point Kiffin leaves Ole Miss for a bigger program, just not now.

Florida obviously hasn't been the same since Urban Meyer left.

This was a destination job, one that you took you could retire from, not so much anymore and it's just wild to see how it changed in a quick amount of time.

Unless Florida makes a godfather offer to Kiffin, don't see him leaving Ole Miss. He has built something pretty special there through recruiting & especially transfer portal.

It is Kiffin,  who knows what to really expect with that guy.
I guess if the price is right he might march right to Florida.  Couldn't blame him for taking more money.
I think he's got a good thing going at Ole Miss.  Seems kinda crazy to leave what he's built there.  They're what,  ranked in the top 8 right now?

If I was the Florida AD I'd try to lure Urban Meyer out of retirement before I offered Kiffin.  Shoot,  I'd offer Boyle's head coach before I would Kiffin.

I'm sure Kiffin is a good coach,  I'm just not much of a fan.

After I'd posted this, I actually saw an article in a Gainesville newspaper listing Kiffin and Eliah Drinkwitz of Missouri as two of the top names on wish lists.

Florida needed to upgrade facilities when Napier came in (I think I'd read that their locker room was a quarter or half-mile walk from their practice field and that they had to cross a roadway to get there), but those improvements are already underway.

With the shape that Florida State is in (not playing well, likely looking for a new coach, and trying to sue to exit) and with Miami (who isn't a public university and has one of their biggest NIL donors facing federal charges) also stuck in the ACC, I think you can still make a case for Florida being one of the best coaching jobs out there.

Biggest obstacles are probably seeing the facility upgrades through, having to get out of the shadow that Meyer will always cast (especially if he's only in the broadcast booth), and having to rebuild your image to compete with Georgia.

The most intriguing factor in any courtship may be how the school has to negotiate with a coach whose team is in the college football playoff, especially considering recruiting deadlines that will pass.

No, stay away from any school in Florida, they all suck.
