Under the Radar Players?
#1
Someone mentioned Gavin Johnson on a Hazard thread as a player who a lot of people don’t know but should or maybe will after this year. That got me thinking who are the “under the radar” players on teams you follow who everyone may know after this season? A couple of mine of are Caden Varney (Belfry) and Deonte Stevens (Pikeville).  I have a few more on those two teams who will also likely break out.

I agree Gavin is a good player but being in a bad team don’t help.

I would have to believe they are a lot of under the radar players on every team. Keep posting them because they deserve it.

Garrett Elkins: Raceland. 6’ 290 Soph OL/DL

I think the Cabell Midland transfer, Corbin's Senior WR/DB , Myles Meadors , will be an impact player in 4A, especially in the defensive backfield and as a return specialist. He can fly.

From Prestonsburg:

Dalton Elliott (SR-WR/DB/KR/PR) - Arguably the fastest football player in the mountains and best return man. Won state in 60m & 200m indoor track. Career 1800 yards of offense and 26 TDs.

Logan Stumbo (JR-LB/FB/TE) - Best way to describe Logan is that he's a football player. Excellent nose for the ball, led team in tackles as a freshman, 2nd on team as sophomore, but led team in tackles for loss. Not the biggest or fastest guy on the field, but he has that dawg in him.

Yes. Landon is very under the radar, and I also think Noah is under the radar and our running back combs.  Perry will open some eyes…

Noah’s on everyone’s radar. Heard he was having a private workout with the chiefs next weekend.

Lawrence Co. 11 Ty Brooks started DL as freshman last year will make some noise!

To name a couple of players inside the county ill go with Landon Robbins RB from Pineville who will be a Junior this upcoming season. From Bell County ima say Hayden Dameron TE/DE going into his senior year. And from Middlesboro Xavion Shehan WR/DB going into his Senior season.

I live up near NKY. Heard from a friend that Beechwood has a kid who transferred from Moeller in Cincinnati. I think he started either tackle or guard at Moeller. I saw his hudl film on another site and he looks pretty good. Listed as 6’4” 260 lbs. haven’t heard much about his recruitment but I would think if he played a Moeller he is going to be pretty hard to handle at Beechwood.

Combs should stick to defense and let the up and coming freshmen run the ball kid is too fast

Isaiah Allen from Betsy Layne is a name that I'd watch for!

Combs is fantastic on defense and hopefully the coaching staff hand him the keys and feed him the rock a lot this season. The freshman is going to be ok but going take some time. It’s a big difference from middle school to grown men in high school. Combs is big, strong and fast and runs like he’s mad at the world. Put him behind Perry’s line they’ve got returning and I think you’ll see that he’s going to do just fine.

I’m with Space Mountain on this one. I’d rather get guaranteed yards than taking chances in losing them. I’d keep the to running outside the tackles because big boy football is tuffer than Middle School.

I already mentioned Deonte Stevens for Pikeville but add Mikey Hager and Quentin Warren as possible impact players for the Panthers this season.

Talked to this kid at the Regional Track meet. Legit speed, and seemed like a great kid to boot. If he didn't have the reoccurring hamstring issue I think his 100 & 200 times would have been even faster.

Looking at some breakout WR/DB in 4A Antwan Dunford (Wayne Co.) now Senior at Pulaski Southwestern set to have a huge season in 5A now and Kinnett Wills, a junior for Russell County WR/DB had 13TDs at the EKU 7on7 (granted it’s 7on7) but had big sophomore season last year.
#26
The Pennington twins at Russell, both are wide receivers. Blazing fast and very explosive speed. Great ability to change direction and make separation. Fantastic route runners.
#27
Just a few that need to be at the top of every list

Blake Burnett at Bell county wins DB of the year, and ties the lead for INTs for the state last season, completes 60% of his passes in an offense that had one receiver and one tight end 99 percent of the time for 12TDs and only one pick. And on top of all that ran for 500 yards and 6 scores. With the loss of thomas burnett should be considered one of the hottest names in the mountains.

Isiah jackson at rockcastle is a freak offensively and defensively on the outside. Stats speak for themselves especially when he isn’t the number 1 target. If larkey can find ways to get him the rock, no pun intended, he will be considered a stud this season.

Rhett Holbrook at Boyd, elite offensive fire power. Dual threat QB with very efficient receivers. If not for a weak front, this guy would light up every team he plays, just can’t get time.

Landon yoak at east carter, very well might be the best half back i saw in the mountains other than daniel thomas and dre young last season, and he’s a junior. Easy carter will be very good and he will be a force to be reckon with. I would go as far as to say he’s the best RB east of lexington this coming year production wise.
