Sportsfan54 Wrote:What teams are in the Tournament. What's your predictions?Pikeville still has two games in the Farm Bureau Classic and a tourney in Frankfort with teams like Male, Holmes, and Trinity before the PIT. But here is a schedule for the PIT this year.
12-27
3:00 Pike Co. Central vs. Lawrence Co.
4:45 East Ridge vs. Cawood
6:30 Pikeville vs. Muhlenberg South
8:15 Meade Co. vs. Betsy Layne
Double elimination tourney with 10 games total for the PIT.

Not a bad tourney. Pikeville could win this one.

Is Coach Garris brother still coaching at Meade County?

I would say Pikeville has this one covered...

hillbilly Wrote:Is Coach Garris brother still coaching at Meade County?Yes, according to coach G his brothers team is ranked in the top 3 or 4 teams out of the 3rd region in the pre-season rankings. They had a big kid that signed with Miss. St. last year. They are probably the favorite to win the PIT.

I am just glad to see the PIT being built back up again. The PIT is the second oldest invitational tourney in the state. If I can remember right, every team will have three games. It should be a good tourney this year and from the looks and effort of Pikevilles coaching staff along with the new athletic director, will be built up even more over the next few years.

Always love to see Pike Central and Pikeville get a chance to play one another.
Those games always provide a great atmosphere.

It's Pikeville's tourney so why wouldn't they want to put themselves in a position to win? And East Ridge and Pike Central may not be in the top portion of the 15th region but neither are pushovers. To call them the weakest of the region is absurd. I didn't know Allen Central suddenly became world bashers of the region either. They are talented, but come on.

It was tried to get 4 in region teams with 4 out of region teams. Most of the top teams in this region chose to go to other holiday tourneys. Shelby Valley is going to be in a tourney in New York City. Paintsville is going to be in the 5/3rd in Lexington. Who else should be invited? May I ask who the weakest teams in the region are that got invited that are in the tourney?

Thats not a first. ER went 3-0 in '02 until loseing there first game ever to prestonsburg in overtime (which whould end with the 59th district championship). In '03 ER went 5-0 until loseing to SV(ER whould go on to win the 59th district and 15th region). In '04 ER went 2-0 until loseing to SV(ER whould lose the 59th district to SV). So ya see there ZAG er has had a few streks going until loseing to very good teams.

If you look at the context of his statement, I believe he was sticking up for ER. No need to give us a rundown of everytime ER has been undefeated before getting waxed by Valley.

Pikeville is already playing in a tournament that is loaded with good teams down in Frankfort; already in the All A with SV & Paintsville; and the WYMT Classic which has 8 of the best teams in the mountains. So why would Pikeville want to overload their own tournament?

I dont know for sure. I know at last years it was announced it was the second oldest. I am going to guess and say maybe Ashlands. Any old timers older than me that can answer that question?

Actually, Pikeville is the THIRD longest consecutively running invitational in KY. The Louisville Invitational is oldest followed by Ashland Invitational. Pikeville is second in Eastern KY.
Could be a good tourney to see some locals and how they match up with teams from other parts of the state instead of just watching East KY beat up on each other.
Hope to see the TW Oliver full.
And I believe the tournament starts on the 27th, not the 26th as title of thread suggests.

Thanks for the correction on the start of the tournament. My bad! The thread also ask for predictions....I haven't seen a one as of yet!

I think Bart and the panthers will win this tourney.

im gunna say Meade Co., Pikeville, and Lawrence....1 of them 3...

Pretty weak field of teams with no top region teams involved. I dont have a problem with Pikeville setting up a tourney then can win easily because the other teams have an option to play or not. Meade would probably be the only team than might have a shot to beat Pikeville. Hopefully an East ky will win this one...

How good is Meade Co.? I know they beat Knott Co Central by 18 but I don't know much about KCC this year.

With the drastic decline of the PIT I'm sure it's hard for the Panthers to attract better teams...
