BGR Music Fans : OSH 's "Name That Song" Thread
#1
I'll provide the lyrics to some classic songs that I like and see if you can name the song . No googling , please .   Smile

1. Moderate/Hard

Life is like the coldest winter
People freeze the tears I cry
Words of hail their minds are into
I've got to crack this ice and fly
Gonna ...
Head for the other side
Leave it all behind
Never change my mind

2.  Moderate/ Hard

Right or wrong, what's done is done
It's only moments that you borrow
But the thoughts will linger on of the lady and her song
When the sun comes up tomorrow

Well it might take years to see through all these tears
Don't let go, when you find it you will know ...

3.     Easy

Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead stickeer on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said,
"Don't look back , you can never look back"
I thought I knew what love was
What did I know?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but ...

4.  Easy/Moderate

I know I need a small vacation
But it don't look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south
Won't even stand the strain

And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all time ...

5.  Easy

The beer was empty and our tongues were tired
And running out of things to say
She gave a kiss to me as I got out
And I watched her drive away
Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain

6. Easy

What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
"Bout a ghost from a wishing well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I'm a ghost you can't see

7.  Easy

Well I know that you're in love with him
"Cause I saw you dancing in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
Then I dig those rhythm and blues...

I was a teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew I was out of luck ...

8. Easy

Last thing I remember
I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax," said the night man
"We are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave"

9.  Moderate

I have a friend in town
He's heard your name
We can go out driving on Low Hand Row
We could stay inside and play games, I don't know
And you could have a change of heart ...

You tell yourself you're not my kind
But you don't even know your mind
And you could have a change of heart...

10.  Moderate/ Hard

He's your oldest and best friend
If you need him he'll be there again
He's always willing to be second best
A perfect lodger, a perfect guest
...   ,  read it on the wall
And realize you just can't have it all
You can't have it all

I got 8/10. Had to cheat on #4 and 5...know the songs though. I know a zillion songs but I'm not the best on lyrics lol...

#1 and 2 are on all-time favorites list. I will try to put a couple on here tomorrow. Again, great thread OSH. Calling VH, come in VH...

10/10 for me, not bragging, just all songs I’m familiar with. The version of number 10 on Live Bullet is my all time favorite Seger song, when paired with Travellin’ Man, which is saying something.

One of my favorites also, just fantastic. That part where Ramblin' Gamblin' Man goes straight into Beautiful Loser still gives me chills to this day.

You guys are good. I'll work on ten more when I get a chace.

Five new ones for Jet and VH to devour .  Granny, where are you?

1.   Easy/Moderate

Her young face was like that of an angel
Her long legs were tanned and brown
Better keep your eyes on the road, son
Better slow this vehicle down

'Cause like a princess she was laying there
Moonlight dancing off her hair
She woke up and took me by the hand...

2.   Moderate/ Hard

Can’t you see that long white rope?
Hangin’ from the hangman’s tree?
Take the restless horse; tie my hands, of course
Tell my mother that I’m finally free

Let me die like a man no one understands
Let me pray, let a poor man pray
Smack that horse in the ass
With my last, dyin’ gasp; my brother could hear me say...

3.  Easy/Moderate

I've been around for you
Been up and down for you
But I just can't get any relief
I've swallowed my pride for you
Lived and lied for you
But you still make me feel like a thief

You got me stealin' your love away
'Cause you never give it
Peelin' the years away
And we can't relive it

Oh, I make you laugh
And you make me cry...

4.   Moderate/Hard

Time on my side.
I got it all.
I heard that pride
Always comes before a fall.

There's a rumor goin' around the town.
That you don't want me around.
I can't shake off my city blues.
Everywhere I turn, I lose.

5.  Easy/Moderate

Whatever happens
I'll leave it all to chance
Another heartache
Another failed romance
On and on
Does anybody know what we are living for?

I guess I'm learning
I must be warmer now
I'll soon be turning
'Round the corner now
Outside the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free...

Ooh, inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile, still, stays on

My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairy tales of yesterday, will grow but never die
I can fly, my friends...

4/5
Forgot #5, huge fan of Queen but didn't care for this song. Great stuff OSH and I will put some on here when I get a chance.

Thought maybe #2 might be the toughest for some, unless they were a Money man fan.  Always liked that song. Underrated artist.  I saw him at an outdoor concert in Corbin about 11 or 12 yrs ago. After about 6 songs it came an absolute monster of a thunderstorm with lightning and torrent of rain. Eddie had no choice but to wrap up the show.He felt bad and promised to come back and do a free show. Sadly, he neer got the chance. RIP, Eddie Money.

6.  Easy/ Moderate

Well, if friends with their fancy persuasion
Don't admit that it's part of a scheme
But I can't help but have my suspicions
'Cause I ain't quite as dumb as I seem

And you said you was never intending
To break up our scene this way
But there ain't any use in pretending
It could happen to us any day ...

7.   Moderate

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I've been afraid of changin'
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older too

8.   Easy/Moderate

Well, we're big rock singers
We got golden fingers

And we're loved everywhere we go

We sing about beauty and we sing about truth

At 10, 000 dollars a show (Right)

We take all kinds of pills that give us all kind of thrills

But the thrill we've never known
Is the thrill that'll getcha when you get your picture ...

9.   Easy

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion

I was soaring ever higher

But I flew too high

Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man

Though my mind could think, I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming

10.  Moderate

Way down the street there's a light in his place
He opens the door, he's got that look on his face
And he asks you where you've been
You tell him who you've seen
And you talk about anything

He's got this dream about buying some land
He's gonna give up the booze and the one-night stands
And then he'll settle down
In some quiet little town
And forget about ev'rything

Well you got me twice here, I didn’t recognize number 2, the Eddie Money song, and I’m still racking my brain on number four. I don’t want to google, but I know I’m gonna hate myself when you tell me what it is.

Don't worry too much about that one Van. You get too much you get too high, not enough and you're gonna die lol...

I was 2 out of 10 on the first post.

2 of 10 is nothing to hang your head about. Even if its a song you're  familiar with, it can be really hard when all you have is lyrics. It's actually pretty difficult.

Westy is a young pup on this old dude music haha. Be glad you’re not old Westy.

Yep, I envy him. I can feel a huge difference in just the past five years. I feel like my body has added 15 years in those five. I feel lucky to have grown up in the seventies and eighties. Just great decades for pop & rock music. The down side to that is being old . lol

Another Round:

1. Moderate/Hard:

He had to have a berth or he couldn't get to sea
I had another look and I had a cup of tea and butter pie
Butter pie?
The butter wouldn't melt so I put it in the pie

Hands across the water, water
Heads across the sky..

2.  Moderate/Hard

Old dusty roads, led to the river
Running slow
She pulled me down, ooh, and in clover
We'd go around, yeah
In the heat with a blue jean girl
Burning love comes once in a lifetime
Oh, the memories never fade away
Golden girl, I'll keep you forever

3.   Hard

We're getting older, the world's getting colder
For the life of me I don't know the reason why
Maybe it's livin' making us give in
Hearts rolling in taken back on the tide
We're balanced together , ocean upon the sky

Another night in this strange town
Moonlight holding me light as down
Voice of confusion inside of me
Just begging to go back where I'm free
Feels like I'm through
Then the old man's words are true

See the ...
Up in the air he like to fly
...   , below she had to try
She roll back down to the warm soft ground
With a little tear in her eye
She had to try, she had to try...

4.  Moderate

You know that chick that used to dance a lot
Every night she'd be on the floor, shakin' what she's got
Man, when I tell you she was cool, she was red-hot
I mean, she was steamin'

And that time over at Johnny's place
Well, this chick got up and she slapped Johnny's face
Man, we just fell about the place
If that chick don't wanna know, forget her

5.  Easy/Moderate

I must've been through about a million girls
I'd love 'em and I'd leave 'em alone
I didn't care how much they cried, no sir
Their tears left me cold as a stone...

It used to be when I'd see a girl that I liked
I'd get out my book and write down her name
But when the grass got a little greener on the other side
I'd just tear out that page ...

Free on my own that's the way I used to be
But since I met you baby, love's got a hold on me...
#21
5/5 on this one, although I probably wouldn’t have gotten the Heart song (#3) if you hadn’t included the chorus. #2 is my favorite Journey song, I was never a huge Journey fan, but have always been a fan of the great Steve Perry voice.

It's pretty hard, isn't it?  I mean, even songs we know well when we hear them are much harder to identify just looking at the words.

50 + % is actually quite good.

Times are hard
You're afraid to pay the fee
So you find yourself somebody
Who can do the job for free
When you need a bit of lovin'
'Cause your man is out of town
That's the time you get me runnin'
And you know I'll be around ...

Light the candle
Put the lock upon the door

You have sent the maid home early

Like a thousand times before

Like the castle in its corner

In a medieval game

I foresee terrible trouble
And I stay here just the same ...

Can you name this  '70's classic ?

I can't think of the title, but SD sang it.

Impressive, to say the least!!!!  You're a geriatric guru when it comes to old time rock 'n roll. Bet they didn't let you girls dance to Steely Dan at Cumberland College back in the day. Especially this song!!!

GREAT SONG!!!

Can Granny B. make it two in a row?

She talks kinda lazy
And people say she she's crazy
And her life's a mystery

Oh but ...

There's something about her hand holding mine
It's a feeling that's fine
And I just gotta say
She's really got a magical spell
And it's working so well
That I can't get away

I'm a lucky fella
And I've just got to tell her
That I love her endlessly ...

Gosh, I love when you talk dirty to me!!!    Smile

If this one doesn't get to Granny Bear, then nothing will.  There's nothing I would like more than to revel in the mingling of menthol and Old Spice as I hold that septuagenarian seductress tight in my arms .Come on Granny, we could heal the world of its divisiveness--- one liberal and one conservative locked in a passion play for the ages. This one's for you  my honey Bear.   LOL

Do you remember  1979 ?  You were but a child in your twenties .   Wink

Meet me in the middle of the day
Let me hear you say, "Everything's okay"
Bring me southern kisses from your room
Meet me in the middle of the night
Let me hear you say, "Everything's alright"

Let me smell the moon in your perfume

Oh, Gods and years will rise and fall
And there's always something more
Lost in talk, I waste my time
And it's all been said before
While further down behind the masquerade
The tears are there
I don't ask for all that much
I just want someone to care
Answer right now

Meet me in the middle of the day
Let me hear you say, "Everything's okay"
Come on out beneath the shining sun
Meet me in the middle of the night
Let me hear you say, "Everything's alright"
Sneak on out beneath the stars and run, yeah
Oh, yeah, yes
Oh, yes

It's king and queen and we must go down 'round
Behind the chandelier
Where I won't have to speak my mind
And you won't have to hear
Shreds of news and after thoughts
And complicated scenes
We'll weather down behind the light
And fade like magazines ...
