Mayfield weak schedule may bite them. Lol!!! I still remember back when mysonis55 kept telling everyone that Williamsburg played a weak schedule for 2 years………..but mayfield could win it all.

LCA has given up an average of 43 points to the good teams that they have played this season: Madison Central, Lexington Catholic, CAL, Pikeville and Owensboro Catholic. Mayfield is going to score, and they're playing at home. If it were at LCA I might pick them. But give me the Cardinals at home, 42-35.

This should be probably best matchup of week in my opinion. Hard to go into War Memorial and win especially day after Thanksgiving.
11-20-2022, 02:04 AM
Got to drive 5 hours, walk into the tunnel under all the years MHS has won it all, out the other side to a wild crowd, around past the tailgaters and onto a grass field. Gonna be real hard for anyone in any class. Has proven to be even harder for about the past 14 years. I like the Cards chances. Cards by 10.

Calpreps has MHS winning 31-22.

I do think that Mayfield will win this one, for reasons that I stated earlier. However, I don't think the Eagles will be intimidated by War Memorial and the Mayfield crowd. LCA has played in may more big games the past 2 seasons than the Cardinals. Only the freshmen on Mayfield have experienced a State Championship environment. LCA has been their for the past two. They've also played at: Boyle County, CAL, Lexington Catholic, Owensboro Catholic, Frederick Douglass and Pikeville over the past 2+ seasons. They also play on grass, so I don't see why that would be a factor. But, in the end, I think the trip to Mayfield, and a porous defense will be what does them in.

I
I have to disagree with ya Walt.... its not the size of Mayfield's stadium.. Its not the fact that its just another big game... Its not who has played the bigger inner city schools..... 55 holds a point here....
Playing at historic War Memorial Stadium in November an trying to come outta there victorious against the Cardinals, is something only very few have done over the past 20-25yrs... it does hold a value ... I promis you!! ask all the players from over the years who have played there, running out that tunnle into the Friday night lights , into a electric crowd , the cow bells., the air horns, the sounds of hundreads of tailgaters lining the first 30yrds of the visitors side.... ask any player that has had to run out that visitors tunnel if playing there didnt hold a value... its just different.. when the busses pull up the first thing they see when they look up is a 150 foot mural, painted on the back of the stadium listing all the state championships.. 4th winningest highschool program in the Nation is floating around in the minds of the kids that step off the bus... Hopefully Lca is there early enough to encounter the sirens an lights of the motorcade parade that takes place from the highschool 2miles away to the stadium... fans usually line the streets in front of the stadium with sparklers an signs cheering an screeming.... its definitely a factor...
On another note i think u ment to say seniors instead of freshman.. And Im 100% certain , LCA 's field is turf...again that can be a factor too.. appreas to be quite a few things to figure in on this one... gonna be alittle warmer an a front that pushes through thur possibly fri with rain on top of the drive an porous defense..

Mayfield by 10. It's in the Cards. :-)

I recall the same talk from people when DeSales came to visit in 2015. Then they talked about how intimidating it was gonna be for the Cards to see them fill the field with 100 players. Well, we see what happened there. I will provide you with some stats to back it.
11-20-2022, 03:08 PM
I understand that certain home fields are not as big an issue for visitors as their fans pump them up to be. However, War Memorial is quite the opposite. Since the 2009 season began, the Cards are 106-4 at home. Only 2 teams have beaten the Cards at War Memorial during that time and all 4 games were within reach. The two teams are 6a McCracken and 2a Murray. The Cards average a score of 45-12 in those home games. So, yes it is just that intimidating.
11-20-2022, 03:50 PM
As far as mentioning teams LCA has played, these are some of the teams that have seen how hard it is to win at War Memorial: PT, McCracken Co, Graves Co, Beechwood, DeSales, CAL, Caldwell Co, Union Co, Green Co, Metcalfe Co, Russellville, Lou Holy Cross, KCD and Murray.

I think Mayfield is going to win, but not because of any intimidation factor or travel or anything like that. LCA is just not anywhere near what they have been the past two seasons. I've said it since Berger went down for Beechwood, 2A is Mayfield's to lose.

Beechwood is still loaded, and IF the mayfield vs LCA Is war like I think it will be, whichever team that wins that game could go to Kroger beat up and Beechwood has been basically on vacation for 3 weeks.

I think Mayfield wins and advances to another State Championship game, Mayfield 35 LCA 24
It would be very cool too see Mayfield bring home another State Title just a year after the historic tornado, that would be worthy of ESPN doing a E60 episode on the Cardinals.

Unless something has changed, I've seen playoff highlights where LCA was playing on brown grass at home in the playoffs. That indicates a grass field to me.
DeSales, CAL, Beechwood, all have had trouble at Mayfield in November. I guess part of it is the home field advantage. Partly it takes some of these teams a quarter or so to adjust to the long ride and realize there's a football game to be played. If LCA thought it took a long time to get to Owensboro, just add a couple of more hours to rural west Kentucky.
To have that advantage, people got to show up. The last two weeks crowd has been pretty average, partly the weather and being a heavy favorite. Sadly, locals will just sit at home or a restaurant and watch it on youtube for free.

If that’s the case, we will have to win that state championship over one of the most supportive schools Mayfield had in their time of need. Beechwood was awesome with the help they provided.

Beechwood football team brought a truck load of supplies and a big check to Mayfield for tornado relief. I figured you knew this by now 57.

I wouldn’t be so sure you would win! I think without a question Beechwood would win if Berger hadn’t got hurt but Beechwood still has a lot of talent even without him.

I didn’t say we would win. I was stating that if we made it there, we would have to beat a Beechwood team that was very helpful to us, to get that title. Certainly not stating that we would. However, I like our chances. We are 7-1 versus the Tigers and we do have a lot of talent.
