We lost , player of the year Napier, and a few great role players in , Brock, McKenzie, Fannin, we add Slone from Knott, and Mcalarnis comes out for senior year, Breathitt lost Turner but return a great starting 5 plus the king now at the helm, my question is, will one of these teams win it or is there a sleeper in the 14th? #commodorenation

Breathitt hasn’t proved a thing. Not even close to a clear cut favorite. Perry is a lot deeper than Breathitt. Breathitt does have the two most athletic kids in the region (Sperry and Collins) but they don’t have the best overall basketball players. Now does Breathitt have a shot, yes they do. But beating them at Perry or even beating Hazard at Perry will be a challenge for the Bobcats.

Breathitt’s season will come down to if BB can get them to be coached and committed to playing defense. You can out score teams in the regular season but come regional tournament defense wins. Games are decided in the 40’s and 50’s. BB has always been a system coach even with Cam Justice they ran a ton of sets and beat teams with execution. Breathitt’s players will have to buy into a system where some of them are screeners and rebounders not scorers.

Breathitt should be the favorite but I'm sure they will find some way to throw it all away like they always do.
Plus I'm sure there will be several transfers before season.

I agree. Breathitt, Perry should be 1,2, but I think letcher , and hazard, will be sneaky and can win, and there’s always that one team that is better then people thought.

I’m pretty sure Breathitt just go thumped by Floyd Central tonight.

Also breathitt might not had all their players..they had a football game last night so that would leave them without Hoskins and sperry both!

Then that would make sense. I’m not sure where the game was but I was told FC won.

Sperry played. Hoskins didn’t. It was played at Breathitt. Floyd Central looked good. Multiple players playing at a high level. Breathitt will be fine as the season progresses. Too much talent and an excellent coach. Scrimmages don’t really mean anything.

Unsure on Breathitt deal, without Hoskins and no practice time coming from football. The bobcats will be fine.
Hopefully no truth to the rumor of him moving to Leslie.
Any word on Perry Scrimmage yesterday at Johnson Central?

Heard Perry beat Paintsville pretty bad. Don’t think any or Paintsvilles starters played due to football the night before.

Who else does Perry scrimmage or have they played both already?

Think they play at Betsy Lane sometime this week. Not sure who or when.

Bhs doesn’t have a deep bench which will hurt them come tourney time. I honestly don’t seeing any different outcomes this year in the 14th from the previous season. Perry or hazard will advance

6:15 they play Pike Central as part of that Betsy Layne panorama.

I don’t see Perry Central being even close to the team they had last year. The three starters who graduated were all key players. It’ll be a big undertaking to coach up last year’s reserve players enough to replace them. But I still think they have enough firepower to make it to the region semis and maybe even the championship game. I think if Breathitt County gets in peak condition and picks up their defensive intensity to match their offense they will be the favorite to win the region.

Well Lookyanner, Slone started at Knott. So not a reserve. Don’t think one kid even played due to being injured and the others weren’t really even reserves. I think Beverly was hands down Perry’s best/key player. Him and Day. The other three were role players that graduated. Just can’t see Breathitt winning when most of their parents ask their kids how much they scored first after the game instead of did you win. Just my 2 cents.

Not really role players

Perry has its best shooting team in the last 4 or 5 years..they did lose alot of leadership and Brock made up for a lot of the slack..they will miss that this season but if coach Hoskins and get through to them to be a team and trust each other they will be a dangerous team..kizer is playing at another level this year which is going to help them..they can go about 7 or 8 deep and don’t loose much so that will help them come region time. Just my opinion

I saw Perry Central this summer against Ashland in their summer camp. Perry looked pretty good. I think Ashland won by 10 or 12. Not sure if Slone was playing with them at that time.

No mention of Perry losing 14th Region player of the Year, Landon Napier? Why is that? I felt like he was the probably the biggest factor of Perry’s title run. He was much more than a role player, I just forgot to mention him in my earlier post. He is the one that will be hardest to replace. Brock was very athletic and McKenzie was very hard nosed and done his job well.

I watched the Perry / pike central game today on D and D, and I’ll say I am not impressed, hopefully it was just a bad game, early scrimmage, sloppy type game, because If they don’t figure it out before next week, it will get ugly at Harlan county.
11-24-2022, 09:47 PM
Anyone saw Letcher Central Schedule? Has to be the best / hardest in the 14th without a doubt. 3 top 25 teams opening up with Pikeville on the road. 3 other teams that are just outsider the top 25 in Fern Creek along with the Smokey Mt Classic field that is loaded to bear with a top 25 team in South Carolina first game. Idk if that’s smart or scary. But you have to give them credit for their guts to get outside the comfort zone and try to win.

Harlan County will be a tuff opponent for Perry considering the game is over in BFE. I would scheduled a weaker game or two so they can gel a little. Trent Noah may put up 50. Not sure anyone can guard him.
