Helluva game. Russell had alot of impressive pieces. Big loss was the Ashland QB in the final week of the regular season. That forced Ashland to be one demensional in how they got Strader the ball. That kid is unreal and without question the most explosive kid in the 6th grade. These two teams were tops in the league through the entire regular season.

The 6th grade division was something else this season. Coming out of the grid, Raceland looked to be the most funadmentally sound and disciplined team. After beating West Carter for the first time in several years, in convincing fashion, they went on a run of lopsided losses to Coal Grove, Minford, and Ashland and a battle with Russell in which they again fell short. Midseason things looked pretty rough.

West Carter started out with a tough stretch of games themselves. Losing to Raceland, Russell, amd Ashland early in the year. But man they turned things around and peaked at the right time.

Ashland defeated Raceland 30-0 and tbh, it could have been worse, in the regular season at Putnam. While Russell went into West Carter and handed them a butt whipping of their own.

West and Raceland managed wins iver Greenup, East Carter, and Boyd County, Raceland getting the 3 seed and West the fourth. Setting up semifinal games against teams that had already thumped them.

West battled and held Russell to the very end only to lose by a score in the semis. Huge turnaround by that bunch. On the other hand, Raceland gave Ashland all they wanted and then some in their semifinal match up. That game coming down to Raceland getting the look they wanted with 18 seconds left, but Ashland came up with a delayed blitz that resulted in a Raceland fumble at the Ashland 4.

Ashland and Russell traded punches. Both teams laid it all out there. Russell came up with one more stop and score.

I say all that to say this. Since the RCL was started, there have been countless one sided victories. But atleast in the 6th grade division, as a whole, NEKY football is getting better again. Super competitive games and kids are getting coached the right way, especially in with these final 4 teams. Congrats to Russell. Hats off to everyone else this year. Great atmosphere today at Ram Stadium!
