Ok, I e been on the KHSAA website trying to figure this MATH and it’s just over my head. Does the RPI end at the conclusion of the regular season or does it continue on in the playoffs? Assuming mayfield and beechwood win out, is there any way beechwood can surpass mayfield? If each addition ( WP, OWP, OOWP) only count .35 I can’t see where beechwood can make up the gap.

LCA's RPI dropped due to the fact that 3 of their opponents were on buy weeks - Boyle, Lex Cath & Belfry. It will jump back up this week. As far as 2 & 3 go I projected Dixie Heights to finish 7-3 which is one of Beechwoods best opponents. They appear to be on track. It's a narrow margin but I don't think BW can catch Mayfield unless their is a major upset in the next 4 weeks. One game to keep an eye on is Mayfield vs Murray.

Mayfield’s bye week is coming up, they will drop some after that. Beechwood and LCA dropped points after their bye weeks. Why is a bye week even calculated in? Who knows, the RPI needs major tweaking if they are going to keep using it.

Bye week is counted the same as a tie.

I know, but why is it even calculated into the equation. A tie hurts a good teams RPI, and helps a bad teams RPI.

If they're calculating byes as a tie, that's new for this year. It isn't in the KHSAA's published RPI explainer here -

https://khsaa.org/rpi-calculation-steps/

If true, it would also benefit teams that don't schedule bye weeks. Bgo!, is it maybe a temporary place holder?

First time I've even seen "Open" equal a 0 - 0 tie on the KHSAA Scoreboard.

All games shown as against OPEN will be counted as an out of state tie for RPI purposes (i.e. non-COVID team that does not replace a game or a natural open date)https://khsaa.org/09-20-21-initial-rpi-r...-football/

You will have to read it but its there.

It will go in as a .5 wp, .5 op, .5oop. That’s how they compute 11x11=121x11=1331. The open bye will drop a team between .020 to.030.

After this week mayfield will drop .020-.030. As far as beechwood getting around them what’s holding them back is the fact their op is low to mid .400s And mayfield is in mid to lower .500s. If mayfield is to get passed it will be the bye week, as long as the op and oop stays where it is they then will go back around beechwood and beechwood will be traveling. I haven’t put this is manually yet but in all others I have done stand true this week, that’s what I see taking place baring no upsets.

It is calculated so that wp is weighed the same as a op and helps to bring multiplier closer in margin. It is weighed as 11 times in the formula.
