1990 Leslie County & Clay County route 80 drive to QF at Freedom Hall.

The 1990 Leslie County boys team in Hyden had double figure scoring from all five starters. They were led by two senior guards in Terrill Wilson and Joey Caldwell. Greg Couch a talented 10th grade forward. Bill Wells unsung hero senior center. Chris Helton a junior forward. December 10, 1989 scoring shows Wells 16, Helton 17, Couch 18, Caldwell 15 and Wilson with 14 points. January 6, 1990 scoring Wilson 26, Wells 14, Helton 16, Couch 10 and Caldwell with 22. Leslie County lost by 3 points at road game with Allen Central in the 15th region. Leslie County 75 Allen Central 73 in OT in Hyden later in the season. These two games would have been intense with Coach Johnny Martin & Ron Stidham. Clay County was led by senior point guard Lloyd Collins who made 3rd team all state. He ranks with the best point guards at Clay County. Shannon Hoskins, Russ Farmer, Richie Farmer and Chris McKissic. Leslie County lost all three regular season games to Hazard. Two weeks before districts Hazard 91 Leslie County 79. Joey Caldwell scored 28 points. In the first round of the 54th district Leslie County defeated Hazard with Chris Helton drive down baseline for game winning shot. This game was played at the Dilce Combs gym, that building would have been rockin on this friday night. On January 17, 1990 Lloyd Collins for Clay County scored 21 points for a road win at Lincoln County. The Danville school Clay County played in first round of state beat this Lincoln County by 4 in district finals and by two points in region finals at the Lincoln County gym. Terry Gray, Lloyd Collins and David Blair were on the 87 & 88 Clay County teams that played in two state finals. Now as seniors they started in 1990 at state. On Feb. 25 1990 scoring shows Kenny Smith with 10 points for Leslie, was this a senior night game and he got to start? Bell County played at Leslie County and Clay County traveled to Log Mountain so i have to mention Donald Elliott scored 54 points in a regular season game on January 7, 1990. Reggie Stidham a 9th grader for Leslie County was named second team all state in 1993. Mark Smith, Todd Messer, Robert Marcum, Jason Mark Smith & James Downey would start in 93 and 94 seasons.
