Head coach Lucas Ford has resigned at McCreary Central. Thoughts on who may get the job.

Bozeman or Payne ? Really don't know why anyone would want it. Facilities not up to par. Pay $5000. no where near where it needs to be. Only 3 paid Assistants. I hope they find a Young Coach from outside. We have a very good young Group of Athletes a few years away. This being McCreary who knows.

Last time I was there, playing field was good. Seating was terrible. Visitors side bleachers may seat 70 max and the bottom seats you could not see game. Have they not updated any in last 10 years ?? Need to put some finances in Football Program.

Seating is still a little small on visitors side. New track, field is in great shape they just invested in a new sprinkler system and play clocks. 100% need new visitors seating. Very young team.

Any idea on where Ford is heading? Would he be rejoining the staff at Somerset?

Back to Somerset. Back to classroom. Back to Assistant Coach. Wish him good luck. 7-3 out of District play. 2-7 , 1-9, 1-9 record 11 and 28 in 4 years . Time to move on.

Went back and looked records up. Looks like that is second best over a 4 year period in History of Football at McCreary Central. Good Luck to Coach Lucas and good luck to MC on finding a new coach.

The problems at McCreary don't just lie with the head coach. You can't put zero emphasis on football in grades K-8 and then expect your high school team to be competitive.

To be fair that statement is accurate for about half of the state.

I would agree the Head Coach is not all the problem with McCreary. Until McCreary puts the finances ( K-8 and 9-11) and adapts a attitude they are going to win, nothing will change. That attitude must come from the administration and McCreary does not have that and I doubt they ever will.

I agree as well it needs to go further than the high school. However it was time to move on he had no control over that team. Zero success as well first year was just getting handed a team with a good schedule after that not so much. Be nice to see Payne get the spot if heâs still up to it.

I agree team totally out of control. McCreary is a hard place to win in Football. Past 10 years they are 18-75 1 trip to Play-offs. When Payne was on staff at McCreary they were 19-24 (4 years) and made 3 trips to playoffs. Payne should have had the job when the Coach resigned then. I would like to see him get it if they would support him.

I think he would bring the discipline thatâs needed. A much better team when he was involved and his efforts bettered the team during that period. If they hire anyone else I think itâs crazy in my opinion. Also would show how itâs the buddy system like smith from 2010-2012 5-25 and then left a team went 0-20 after that. McCreary needs to find a coach who is willing to stick it out every surrounding high school is competitive and has seen multiple playoff wins all have good coaching McCreary sets back and is ok with being a bottom feeder. Change the culture hard work pays off.

I keep hearing Payne, seems a lot would want him. Bozeman will apply. I hear Eric Privett will apply. It will depend on who AD wants. I would tell them to get in line and kiss up.:popcorn:

McCreary Central has 3 starting receivers returning and 2 or 3 good running back with a junior/ senior offensive line. The defense struggled to keep teams from scoring last year so I think whoever gets the job needs to put a lot of focus on the defensive side of the ball. There has to be discipline though for the Raiders.

Does McCreary lose football players to other schools because of the lack of emphasis in the system? Just wondering since they're surrounded by really good programs on every side. Wayne County to the west, the Pulaski County schools to the north, Williamsburg to the east, and Oneida, Tennessee to the south.

It used to be a big issue a lot of kids would transfer elsewhere. Sad that almost every school thatâs been around us has seen a semi finals in the past decade or a state finals appearance
Williamsburg two state finals
Wayne one state final
Pulaski four state final appearance and a championship
Somerset won a state championship
Oneida has had a semi appearance
Then here mccreary is in the middle canât even get but one playoff appearance in 11 seasons. And have went 0-4 in the playoffs never been better than a 4 seed. They have had a 18-82 since the 09 season with watts. Something has to change and thatâs the buddy system selection of coaching that happens there.

I think the QB will also be a Jr. He has started for 2 years.

Would be a good situation for a young Coach as far as winning. No where to go but up. I just don't think they would get the support they need from the Administration. JMO It would be a pleasant surprise if they did. Oneida won a State Championship.

Looks like some really good Football Teams all around them. I saw McCreary play in 2008 and 2009. They had a good team both years, drilled us (Leslie Co.). Good Luck on Coaching search. Hiring the good ole boy or your buddie will not let a School build a winning program.

I don't think you could call them a BB School. Since 2009-2010 season they have one 1 district game. 0 district championships. In fact I don't know if we have won a district championship in anything during this time. I think it's fair to say more emphasis in put on BB than any other sport. Something is wrong somewhere.

McCreary has a great basketball group coming up the jv won region a couple months ago and will probably win the next 2 years of districts last time I heard

You people have taken a Football post and turned it into a Basketball post. Shows where your interest lies. I think I would be hiring a Football Coach real quick and wait until October to start thinking Basketball.

Has nothing to do with that... every school has its "fav" sport. I was always under the impression it was BASKETBALL MCC. That is relevant to the argument of why it might be hard to win at MCC.

It's hard to win at McCreary for a lot of reasons. Little support, one of the poorest areas in the country, no feeder system, no tradition are just a few of the big factors that keep them at the bottom. Plus, as has been mentioned above, if you have a kid that is above average at a certain sport, there is little incentive to keep them at McCreary vs. any of the other schools within a 30-45 minute drive of the area. I'm not trying to kick them while they're down, but these are all things that need to be addressed if they want to field a competitive team in any sport.

First and foremost is finding a coach that is willing to put the time in to build something there wonât be over night but someone that would spend 10 plus years building the program and putting the effort fourth to get kids out and build something. Then other things such as support will fall into place

Well if we are looking for someone who is going to stay 10 years it want be Bozeman or Payne both too close to retirement. Privett's wife is Principal at the High School and I don't see how he can even be Coach as long as she is in that position. Hope someone that has been an assistant in a good program get's the job and stays until this good group get there.
