88 Pikeville region semifinals, 15th players scoring in 89
#1
Pikeville had Johnny Hale making shots from the wing, Chris Slater who would score a lot of points next season and Doug Willett on the inside. Coach Johnny Ray Turner 88-89 teams are one of my favorites to watch play and they way they passed the ball. Henry Webb, Dickie Jo Shannon, Lance Hall, Rady Martin and Brent Rose. The Phelps team started with Brian Charles, Jamie Keene, Ronnie Blankenship but more important the play of Mike Fannin. Bart Williams as a player for Johnson Central then head coach Pikeville then on to Owingsville for Bath County plus the history his father knows about the 15th region. From January 20, 1989 to January 29, 1989 the points that were scored. Keith Hale a junior in this tourament scored 54 on a friday road game and then 30 back at home on Saturday night. He also scored 35 against Fairdale two season before their two state finals wins. Freddie McCoy of Prestonsburg scored 43 points against Johnson Central in 1988. Chris Slater from Pikeville scored 42 points in January 1989. The Prestonsburg team at the Mountain Classic in Hindman had Danny Hamilton with 10 and 12 points. Todd Justice Justice scored 19 and 22 points. Chris Slone led his team with 18 and 28 points in Friday/Saturday games. On saturday january 30,1982 Bruce Mullins scored 41 points and grabbed 22 rebounds in a road win at Louisville Shawnee. Tim Lawson his teammate scored 27 points for a Allen Central road win.
