Top 5 Coaches In Kentucky High School Football

Coach Booth Wrote:For some reason Jim Matney isn’t on this document. His career record is 297 wins and 130 losses.

Is his total currently at 297 or after 2019 with an updated, 312?

I can remember when Paintsville coach Walter Brugh retired with a total of 280 in 1994, as the all time wins leader.. Been a lot happen since then.

Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Mr. Eviston was the head coach at Newport Central Catholic High School from 2010-2013. During his tenure as the head coach at NCC, Mr. Eviston compiled a record of 35-8 and led the Thoroughbreds to the KHSAA class 2A state championship in 2010 and 2012
~from Covington Catholics press release upon hiring coach Eviston

At cov cath He then went 9-4 (2016), 15-0 (2017), 14-1 (2018), 15-0 (2019). 35+9+15+14+15=88 right? 8+4+1=13 right? Grand total of 88-13 right? What am I missing?!?

Thank you. I stand corrected.

Ivan McGlone had a good run at Russell. 2 state titles and 300+ wins.

Also not on this list:
Coach Beatty joined the 200 win club in 2016 and is now 245-44. Coach Morris also joined in '16 and is now 252-50 (2 shy of his dad). Coach Smith should be added this year. Adding to another post by Hatz, I think his record is 211-44. To the best of my knowledge, these are all correct.

For a list of coaches championship game records (through the 2018 season) -

You are correct. The win/loss records must be submitted by the coaches. Larry French wasn't on the list until the season before he reached 300 wins. It was his decision not to submit them until then.

What about Ivan McGlone now retired from Russell ? If I'm not mistaken wasn't he for a long time the winningest coach in Ky ? & Didn't he take title away from Paintsville legend Walter Brugh ? And as far as Jim Matney goes he has been extremely successful over the past 15 or 16 or so seasons at Johnson Central as someone already stated. But to say he is early in his career is bit of a stretch as he had a successful tenure as a HC at Sheldon Clark for several years before we went to Johnson Central if I'm not mistaken? Or am i confusing Matney with someone else?

I’m going with Haywood most wins in Kentucky history and I don’t really think anybody will catch him coaches now days don’t have that longevity to much moving around.
