The Cavaliers were 0-3 on the season thus far.
Mountain Top Sports posted an article saying Jenkins only had 8 players against Breathitt Co.
Here are W/L records for the last four complete seasons
2018: 0-10
2017: 0-10
2016: 1-10
2015: 1-10
From 1998 through 2018, Jenkins best season was in 2007.
2007: 6-5
Since Jenkins is an independent school, would the current players be eligible to play Letcher County Central?
With those low of numbers and Jenkins being one of the smallest schools in the Commonwealth, we may have just seen another football program die.

Football everywhere is dying in my opinion. The game is so much different than 20 years ago. And in 50 years I believe it may be non-existent.

How does it affect Breathitt Co's RPI???? :0

Wonder if the KHSAA has a way to factor that variable in to the equation?

I 100% agree.
My JC team was 5-25 through three seasons in '01, '02 & '03. It was not fun on any level going to a game. Had JC not been been an old 3A size school, at the rate we were going back then, our program may have ended up in the same cemetery.
I can't imagine having only one winning season in twenty years.
The players who wore the Green & White for Jenkins had to play for the love of the game.

I had this for the players and coaches trying to keep this going. And also the school and community not having homecoming and being able to get together for Friday night lights. This is a sad state of affairs for the small town schools

Some people don't realize that kids at these schools work just as hard as the kids at the top programs.

In a way, theyâve brought it on themselves. They took a break from district play, and should have remained out until they had committed, reliable players and fan base/admin support. That starts with little league. Build it, grow it, ave coaches who will coach EVERYONE and not just a few favorites, pick a system the local demographic can support (Run/pass/spread etc), and teach it from the ground up. Keep the high school program going as a non District participant playing JV schedule for 4 years minimum. That will allow current 6th graders to mature to sophomore level and re-enter district play with the understanding and expectation that they will likely get their teeth kicked in the first year, and show subsequent improvement each year after as more depth comes along.
I donât personally know, but do believe, that they start each season starry eyed and bushy tailed due to unrealistic expectations. Then when the a@@ kickings commence, players and moms and dads become disenchanted and quit. Ya gotta crawl before you walk and walk before you run. Itâs the only way to save their program if they want to. If not, become a non football playing school and spend the money on other sports and academic pursuits. Basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, archery, academic teams, band, etc all suffer because of money poured into football only to watch it collapse year after year. They may never reach a Pikeville, Hazard, etc level in 1A but they can become more competitive if they do this. Otherwise get the heck out of the way and put the money and time into the others who DO stick it out year after year.

I hate this for high school football. So many people talk about closing schools because of reciprocal agree. We should be about offering and doing as much as possible to keep all schools playing football. The great sport on earth that teaches kids/ players about real life situations..
I hate it for the kids at Jenkins...

This will be the beginning of an 8 man football division coming back, which will then drop 1 man HS to 5 classes.

Load up the kids left and play some local j.v games if they don't transfer out
Try pick the number back up next season

I really hate to hear this, especially for the seniors.

Jenkins as a whole is just in a bad position. Itâs not 1950 anymore. Socioeconomically, itâs a small struggling town. Same can be said with JHS. Why go there when you can go to Ridgeview, LCC, or Wise?
I hate to hear it but this problem goes much deeper than football. I fear youâll see this in other towns in the coming generations.

I can assure everyone that we had realistic expectations! As for the kids I have spoke to a few and some have stated they would like to continue their career else where! As bad as I hate it I have to agree the decision made. We will look to play a JV season next year and hopeful compete in district in 4 years. Unless they bring back 8 man. I ask that we can have support for the kids and please keep negative conversation private.

Man, I hate to hear this. Feel bad for the young men who love playing the game and the community who loves to go out on Friday nights to support them. Sad day in Jenkins, and the state of Kentucky.

I love Jenkins but they never should have been allowed to start the season with 13 players on the roster. Anyone with a pulse knew it had no shot.

The late start really killed our fall sports. When I played we would normally pick up 8-15 kids once school started. This year the issue was we didn’t start school until August 26th. We also only had 4 girls for volleyball and now are up to 11. Football was the same for summer I think we had around 7, got up to around 13, and peaked at 16.

If you have to wait until school starts to pick up athletes for fall sports you are already dead in the water, especially in football in a small school. Hard to believe everyone on Earth doesn't know this.

No one never said it wasnât dead in the water. I wasnât going to tell those kids not to come to practice! If you have 7 kids coming to two a days and weight lifting. Then thatâs 7 kids attempting to do something, thatâs 7 kids for - few hours of the day that arenât out getting high or getting into to trouble, to me thatâs a win. The real lose isnât the games, itâs what are those kids doing now that there isnât a practice after school.

I agree but it's not enough to have a football team that inevitably folds and screws up all your opponents' schedules.

I agree 100% with that itâs not fair to those other kids. Itâs bad deal for every kid involved. We had a team I believe in 83 or 84 that were called the mean 16 that lost to Phelps for district. That will never happen again. Thatâs irrelevant but one of the few bright spots in our history.

Like I said I love Jenkins and I mean it. Like PHSForever said on another thread build it from little league up and play a JV schedule...but unfortunately if you only have 7 kids in the summer, football is not even close to being a viable option at Jenkins.

Iâm not apart of the football staff Iâll just throw that out there. JV was talked about before the schedule was made, and in hindsight it should of been the option that they went with. We have competitive teams from 5th-8th grade that are pretty competitive. The plan is to hopefully have enough kids to play a JV schedule next year and go from there.
