Trinity 70 Johnson Central 28 (Sweet 16 First Round)

I wouldn’t say historically that the region has been bad. For example:

15th Region teams at the “Sweet 16”

1935 Inez (23-9) Final Four
1936 Inez (27-6) Final Four
1937 Inez (30-4) Runner-Up
1938 Frenchburg (24-2) Final Four
1940 Inez (37-1) Final Four
1941 Inez (40-5) STATE CHAMPION
1954 Inez (33-2) STATE CHAMPION
1956 Wayland (35-6) Final Four
1957 Pikeville (31-4) Final Four
1961 Wheelwright (32-4) Final Four
1969 Maytown (35-3) Final Four
1982 Virgie (33-3) Final Four
1987 Paintsville (32-5) Final Four
1996 Paintsville (26-10) STATE CHAMPION
1997 Paintsville (33-4) Final Four
1998 Paintsville (30-7) Runner-Up
2010 Shelby Valley (32-4) STATE CHAMPION

Shelby Valley- 4 (All in 2010)
Paintsville- 4 (3 in 1998, 1 in 2008)
Johnson Central- 2 (2000 & ?? -Fairly recent)
Pikeville- 2 (1999 & 2018)

This biggest argument to be made would be that 7 of those wins came in two years. 1998 & 2010.

Since 2010, Pikeville & Johnson Central each have a win.

Hmm... looking at that, it appears that the list on the other thread may be inaccurate. Shelby Valley actually has 5 wins during that time, they also won a game in 2009. (Also, Johnson Central's recent win was in 2014.)

Based on those results, it appears the 15th has 13 wins since 1998, not 12. That new total pulls the 15th region into a tie for tenth place overall. Even better...

A waste of fuel the 15th was really down this year but JC was overwhelmed on the big stage to they could have put up a better fight but they let the moment get to big for them a 20 to 25 point loss would have been more like it

My bad!

If you just go back to 1995, the 15th has tallied 19 wins over the last 25 seasons. I'd say over the last quarter century, the 15th stacks up fairly well. That said, if you're just looking at more recent years, it's a different story, with only 2 wins between 2011-2019.

I also realized how much the 15th region has been dominated by 4 teams during this time frame (1995-2019). Consider:

Shelby Valley - 7 regional titles, 5 Sweet Sixteen wins, 1 state title
Paintsville - 5 regional titles, 10 Sweet Sixteen wins, 1 state title
Johnson Central - 7 regional titles, 2 Sweet Sixteen wins
Pikeville - 3 regional titles, 2 Sweet Sixteen wins

All others schools combined - 3 regional titles, no Sweet Sixteen wins

In ten Sweet 16 appearances, JC has played the future state champions in three times.

2000 - E-Town (Elite 8)
2006 - Jeffersontown (1st round)
2019 - Trinity (1st round)

Mike Tyson had 44 KO's in ....... eight of those were in 5 rounds or less & for a Heavyweight championship title. No shame in losing to the champ. If you're gonna get KO'ed (or take a 42 point loss), might as well be from the champ.

Tough loss for my Eagles. I knew the odds were against us playing Trinity, but I was hoping we could keep it respectable. All good though, we'll be back next year. Go Eagles! :Cheerlead

Same way in baseball:

2004, Christian Co. (Final 4)
2007 Dunbar (first round)
2014 St. X (2nd round)

A lot of times it does come down to the luck of the draw. A few times recently the 15th had a team that could compete with anyone but ended up with a bad draw. The Lawrence County team with the Dalton brothers a few years ago could have beaten anyone and drew doss in the first round and played them close, with doss ending up making it all the way to the title game. I also think the Johnson central teams with Hall and Braxton blair were good enough to beat anyone as well.

While we're at it.... same way in football. This list does not count the three losses in the state championship game.

2006 - Cov. Cath (State semi-finals/Old 3A).
2008 - Highlands (Regional round/5A).
2009 - Highlands (Regional round/5A).
2010 - Highlands (Regional round/5A).
2011 - Highlands (2nd Round/4A).
