What teams are in a better situation going forward with district alignment?

What teams may be in a worse situation?

This applies to more or less difficult opponents, more or less travel, losing or gaining back a rivalry game, etc....

I'm only going to speak to 3A, since that is what I'm most familiar with.

I'm happy if I am: Paducah Tilghman, Union County, Trigg County, Adair County, Taylor County, Bardstown, Bell County, and I might be tempted to say Mason County. All of these teams seemingly replaced an almost foregone conclusion of a district champ with a game that should/could be much better on paper. At the very least, the gap closed from top to bottom.

I'm sad/mad/unhappy if I am: Anyone is District 4 who didn't move up from 2A (seriously, those one is a toughie), and all of the people in D7 who moved into it, and now has the possibility of a 1st or 2nd round match against the Belfry Fightin Phils.


I think everyone else probably stayed right around where they usually would or will be.


EDIT: I know some people will probably rail against the distance their team has to travel, but I'm not going to focus on travel. Because I've found that in a vast majority of situations, they're not mad that a team has to travel. They're mad because THEIR team has to travel. They're perfectly fine with travel, as long as it isn't THEIR team. Plus, how far is too far? Over 2 hours? Over 3 hours? Does it depend on whether or not the team has nice buses? The travel argument, for most of the teams, doesn't hold water.

It is beyond me why schools complain about travel. They caused the travel problem with all the consolidations. When you have county schools you may have to travel across two counties to play district games. Those that didn't consolidate may have a grip, it took away some of the close games.

No one in this state got a better draw than Middlesboro. Traded Somerset, LCA and Danville for Knott County, Breathitt Co and Leslie County. The above also goes to the west.

Mercer and EJ are both better than Glasgow and Casey. Glasgow is not the smallest team in that district, I believe. And, aside from the last 2 seasons, Casey hasn't really had much sustained success. I'm not saying they aren't good, but they aren't that far removed from being pretty bad. And, in a community like that, it's hard to keep a consistent level of success at a county school.

I should have included Casey in the group of schools who should be happy, because the last 2 seasons they would have been much more likely to beat Glasgow than Corbin.

But, I still stand by my Taylor County statement. I'd rather have Glasgow and Casey, over Mercer and EJ.

Well, yeah. That's a given. If Belfry is still an open school that fields a football team, then they should have confidence about their position.

This district could possibly sweep District 2 in some years.

Ashland has to be happy. Moved down a class, lost Johnson Central as district game, kept East Carter and Greenup.

Mason Co. has a pretty good path to district title each year.

West Carter got hosed. Should be in 2a Distrct 8.

I don't know what Betsy Lane situation was before, but I'm gonna guess it was a lot easier than Paintsville, Raceland, Fairview as their district.

2a Districts 7 and 8 are extremely weak.

District 7- Breathitt County, Knott County Central, Leslie County, Middlesboro
District 8- Bath County, East Ridge, Morgan County, Prestonsburg, Shelby Valley, Sheldon Clark

Winners: Mason Co, Ashland, Greenup Co, Bath Co, Middlesboro, Sheldon Clark.
Lossers: Montgomery Co, Magoffin Co, Washington Co, Bourbon Co.

Although Ashland and Greenup Co are opposite Belfry in the playoffs they do not have JC in district any longer. If Grizzle continues to improve GC they and Ashland should be 1/2. Mason Co dropped into a winnable 3A district each year. Middlesboro may have been they biggest winner of all.

Montgomery Co now has to compete with Scott Co, Great Crossing, and Fredrick Douglass every year. They will have to beat Grant Co for the 4 seed to earn the right to go to Cov Cath each year in the 1st round. Ouch. Magoffin Co gets moved into the Belfry/Floyd Central/Pike Central/Lawrence Co district. Enough said there. Bourbon Co gets a former 5A Anderson Co, Lexington Catholic, and a powerhouse Boyle Co in district. Washington Co gets Danville, LCA, and Somerset so they get the 4 seed based on projections for the other 3 in the coming classes.

Is Great Crossing going to immediately going to be in varsity play?

I have no idea. Seems like the plan was for the school to open and sports to follow the next year as facilities were phase 3 of the building plan. But I think they pushed back opening the school until 2018 to have sports.

The way the new school has been handled in Scott County has been a roller coaster from the first public hearing on the issue several years ago.

My guess is Scott Co and FD aren't going anywhere since they have great 6A records and are dropping down a class. I also think GC will be decent out of the gate.

Would you rather have the new district or the first proposed district with the two Scott County Schools and Montgomery Co.?

Losing Scott County hurts 6A overall. Frederick Douglass was a fresh new addition and now 5A gets them. This hurts competition in 6A as well and gave Fayette schools a new target to aim for.

Picking up Fern Creek is a positive for 6A. Losing Seneca and Jeffersontown is a positive for those schools. This opens up Trinity, Eastern, and Ballard schedules for better/different opponents.

Oldham County may be in a better place district wise but now they have to deal with a larger elephant in the room. Their coaches are familiar with Trinity.

Marshall County rejoining 6A is a good thing for region 1.

Happy the final four re-seeding was put off. This will be very tricky down the road and I believe the Commish should let the rotation play out as it has recently.

Bracken County I’m glad is staying in their district after being proposed to move up to 2A. They will remain with Bishop Brossart, Paris, and Nicholas. This is usually a competitive district and they are all pretty close and in the 10th Region.

I think Fleming County has to be happy with their new district. Pretty close to most schools and very competitive.

Rock will gladly trade Knox Central and Wayne Co. for Bell, Powell Estill etc. Garrard went from a tough district to a tough district and out a heck of a lot more fuel money. Bourbon definitely got thrown in the deep end.

Look for Hodge to leave Bourbon ASAP. He’s been trying the past 2-3 years.....BC has no chance in district play come 2019.

Rockcastle will have their hands full with Bell by 2019. Not sure what they having coming thru the pipeline. .....but Hilton will have Bell back to being respectable in another year or so.

Ashland and Greenup Co will be competitive in 3A.....but the tomcats don’t have a lot coming up in the sophomore and junior class.

Belfry will remain Belfry for the next 2-3 years. However.....I see a significant drop off coming after 2020. A lot will depend on the economy over the next couple of years. They should be 3A title contender in 18 and 19 for sure

1A is definitely the easiest road to the state title for my Bears. I'd say we have a great shot at winning a state title in the next few years with Coach Brausch at the helm and all the young talent coming up on the farm. Any truth to us getting a turf field in the next few years?

I completely agree. Most years Bracken would have struggled to compete in the projected 2A district. Would have been tough sledding. Good to see them stay 1A.

Uh ok. I’m all for the new guy getting a shot but as long as Raceland and Paintsville remain at or near their current levels, which it looks like they will, they are 1 and 2 in the region every year.
