INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball team clinched the Horizon League Regular Season Championship outright on Sunday afternoon with a 75-56 victory at IUPUI. The Norse close the regular season at 22-8 overall and 15-3 in the Horizon League. IUPUI falls to 11-18 and 8-10 in league play.


STATS LEADERS
Lavone Holland II led all scorers with 17 points. He also added four steals and three assists.
Drew McDonald recorded his 16th double-double of the season and 14th in the last 20 games with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Dantez Walton contributed 11 points and three rebounds in the contest.
Jalen Tate had nine points, three steals and two assists.
Tyler Sharpe added nine points and three steals.
Carson Williams contributed eight points and nine rebounds for NKU.

TURNING POINT
With NKU leading 23-17, the Norse went on a 9-0 run over the last 2:08 of the first half to take a 32-17 lead into halftime. NKU then started the second half on a 6-0 run to take a 21-point lead and put the game out of reach.

FIRST-HALF SUMMARY
The Norse used two 6-0 runs to take a nine-point lead at 14-5 with 15:11 to play in the first half.
NKU went on a 9-0 run to end the half and take a 32-17 lead. The 15-point advantage was the largest of the half for the Norse.
Sharpe knocked down a three-pointer in the final seconds after an impressive offensive rebound by McDonald kept the possession alive.
The Norse shot 12-of-28 (42.9%) from the floor and 4-of-14 (28.6%) from the three-point line in the half.
NKU held IUPUI to just 5-of-24 (20.8%) shooting in the half and 2-of-7 (28.6%) on attempts from behind the arc.
The Norse forced 10 IUPUI turnovers in the half, thanks in part to seven steals.
Sharpe had eight points in the half, and Walton and McDonald each had six.
McDonald had seven rebounds in the half, and Williams had six.
SECOND-HALF SUMMARY
The Norse started the second half on a 6-0 run to take a 38-17 lead with 18:37 to play in the stanza.
IUPUI never got closer than 14 points in the half, and NKU went on to win by a final score of 75-56.
The Norse converted 14-of-23 (60.9%) from the floor in the half and 4-of-11 (36.4%) on three-point attempts.
IUPUI was 11-of-29 (37.9%) on field goals and 6-of-15 (40.0%) on shots from beyond the arc.
NKU forced eight turnovers in the half, thanks in part to seven steals.
GAME NOTES
The Horizon League Regular Season Championship is the first for the program.
The Norse shot 26-of-51 (51.0%) during the game and 8-of-25 (32.0%) on three-pointers.
Stifling defense from NKU limited IUPUI to 16-of-53 (30.2%) on field goals and 8-of-22 (36.4%) on attempts from behind the arc.
The Norse had a 26-11 advantage in points off turnovers in the game.
NKU also had a 14-4 advantage in steals.

NEXT UP
With the win and outright league title, NKU has earned the number one seed in the Horizon League Tournament. The tournament bracket will be released later Sunday evening.

NKU is going to keep playing hard to make it back to the big dance, not going to be a cake walk in conf. tourney. I can see 5 teams that can get hot and win it.

it will be tough, but they are playing some good ball.
