This was a big upset game for sure, Congratulations Powell County

Nothing against Powell County but man come on, let them play and stop calling every little touch fouls
02-20-2018, 04:20 AM
And it needs to be mentioned that Owsley shot only 16 freethrows for the game, ridiculous as it comes. Whistles only worked on one end
02-20-2018, 04:25 AM
Congrats. The beat TEAM won. Great defense Lady Pirates!!

I was waiting for that start but it never came across. Powell was 24/48. That's ridiculous.

Well, if you shoot 3âs on one end and on the other end a team is being aggressive and going to the basket, that happens.

Dont even try to play that crap, ask any neutral observer and see what they tell you. Worst called game Iâve seen in years
02-20-2018, 04:39 AM
I wonât play that crap, if people wonât come on here and play their crap. Complaining about referees and taking away from these girls that played their butts of and won a great game.

And Iâll promise you that there is no way that Coach Jones would get any favors from any ref in the 14th region.

Your delusional, tell yourself whatever you want to if it makes you feel better. Powell was double bonus less than 5 min into 2nd half, at one point in 3rd fouls were 11-1 in favor of Powell. Thatâs no coincidence but Iâm sure youâll say Powell just played that much better of defense right

It didn't matter to me who won but when a teams shoots 48 FT' s to the opposing team's 16, theirs something wrong. I'm surprised that Owsley jacked up 3's and not going to their workhorse, Macie Gibson.

They tried early in game but she had 3 hanging on her at all times, Powell was allowed to play so physical it was virtually impossible for her to get any good looks

Macie has had a stomach/ intestinal virus all week. That had to affect her play tonight. Sheâs been sick for about 4 days.
She was double teamed and bodied up quite a lot. I thought the smaller girl who helped double her kept her hands on her back or side a lot but nothing much called. Physical game and a lot of stuff was allowed to go on, at least on one end of the court. A huge factor in this game was Owsleyâs pg Lexy Lynch only played the first and fourth quarters due to foul trouble. Of course I suppose Iâm bias but a couple of her fouls were very iffy in my opinion. And theyâre not deep on the bench and she was really needed to play the biggest part of the game, especially with Gibson ailing.
Regardless, itâs been a great year for the Lady Owls. They won 20 games for the first time in a long time and Macie set the school scoring record and scored over 3000 points. Theyâve been fun to watch. And thereâs a good group of young players who will be around for several more years, so the future looks bright.

Iâm not from either school and could care less who won but If a coach lets a player get 4 fouls in the first quarter of a 12-10 game thatâs 100% on them. That was the stupidest thing Iâve seen in a long time from a coach. Why not take her out after she got the 3rd foul. Owsleyâs assistant coach getting 2 Tâs in a close ballgame was also a big mistake. Powell had a good gameplan and Gibson rarely attacked the basket tonight. She settled for jumpers and didnât put Powellâs players in a position to foul much. With that said congrats to her on a great career and more importantly earning a D1 scholarship.

i don't care what kind of defense a team plays or if one team is aggressive or not, to shoot 3 times as many free throws as another team is ridiculous. nobody can say im for either one of these teams I didn't care who won

powell won fair and square. simply out played Owsley. all there is to it. go pirates irateSho

Powell County played good defense last night against Owsley. Their 48 free throws to Owsley's 16 is a major difference, however Owsley was fouling more often than Powell was, simple. You shouldn't let a player stay in the game after having 4 fouls in the first quarter. Powell took the ball to the basket, rather than shooting 3 pointers. They deserved to win and came out on top like everyone was hoping. what an upset. go red!

Where was this at last year in the district tourney when Owsley upset #1 seed Lee County. And Owsley shot 40 freethrows and Lee county shot 15.
Why were no Owsley fans complaining then?

I went back and looked at stats from that game last year just to be sure and Owsley shot 39 but lee didnât report stats for game so no way to tell how many they shot but I can assure you it was more than 15. I also checked the game thread from this site and no one mentioned anything about freethrow disparity that youâre mentioning so where did you get this stat from?

Great game! Two great teams

Its hard to beat Powell at Powell. Where was that game played?

They deserved to win and came out on top like everyone was hoping. what an upset. go red!I donât agree that âOwsley was fouling more often than Powell wasâ. Powell was fouling too, A LOT. They just werenât called. Macie Gibson was pushed and held all night, wedged between two girls like a ham sandwich. Thatâs not good defense. Thatâs bodying up, thatâs fouling. When the ball was lobbed to her she would go up to get it and the smaller girl guarding her would undercut her. She has a right to verticality. She has to be allowed space to land after she jumps. And someone else said Owsley settled for 3âs and didnât attack the basket. Thatâs false too. Macie usually takes a few 3s every game and shoots 40% from that range. She made 54 this year. But she had numerous shots inside the paint and was hacked but nothing called. But Lynch barely breathed on someone and was whistled for a foul. Go figure! If Lynch could have played all 4 quarters , or even 3, Owsley wins the game by about 10, which is around the margin of both wins over Powell this year. She is is the pg that handles the ball and works well with Macie. But she wasnât permitted the leverage that the opponentâs guards were. In a district game the kids should be given a little more freedom from a tight whistle. Those are one and done games. Please allow the players to determine who wins these games. Fluff fouls that take a key player out of a key game is not how it should be.
Also, Macie scores 37 and 34 in the two season wins over Powell. But in those games the defense wasnât allowed to body up to her and bump and push all night , when they did fouls were whistled.
This was a game that was called strict on one team and very loose on the other. What occurs when that happens? Iâll tell you, one team shoots 48 free throws to the otherâs 16, and one team has 3 starters foul out while the other has zero. Guess which team wins with that type of whistle and those numerical odds. Not difficult to figure out.

Why was Eddie Browning (PCC AD) allowed to call this game? No way there should have been that big of a free throw discrepancy in this game. Owsley got hosed by refs

Still trying to figure that one out myself, seems like a conflict of interest to me. I donât think anyone affiliated with any school should be allowed to ref in that particular region much less a tournament game.
