Alfus or anyone else heard anything about Billy D as a done deal
#1
to UK. Over at Catpause a couple of the senior members are reporting this.. Anyone else know anything about this?
#2
I read that too. I don't know anything about it though. I will admit I am a huge Tubby supporter and I hate to see him go, but he is gone and I would love to see Billy D take the job.
#3
I said this in another thread people claiming we couldn't win a bidding war with florida..

But, I wouldn't bet the house on it.. What makes everyone so sure that Billy D wouldn't come to UK? I don't think money would be the issue. Why? Because Kentucky has always been one of the highest paid coaching jobs in america, if not the highest. What makes anyone think that anything will change? I mean is Florida going to really pay a basketball coach significally more than their football coach.. I don't see it happening.. I say this because I believe UK will pay him at least 3 to 3.5 million a year.. I don't think Urban Meyer makes nearly that much.
#4
Peopel who say UK doesn't have the money are crazy. There is plenty of money there to be given out lol. Especially from all those rich boosters who have all the good seats in Rupp lol
#5
Not heard this yet. On a side note, yellow is my new favorite color

.
#6
Kentucky could pay him 10 million a year and never blink.

Agreed.

I think we should have to live with Bobby Knight for few years to let us know what a good coach we had, Not that Bobby isn't a good coach, He's Great. But he would line the complainers out. Wink

All the buzz here in Lexington says that Billy Donovan to UK may be a done deal.

Kentucky can pay him a lot, but guys Florida can easily match it and would. It just all depends on if he is ready for a move. Florida along with Texas have the deepest pockets in college athletics.

Nobody and I mean nobody has inside info on anything to do with UK Basketball. Nobody had even heard of Draymond Green before he committed (he backed out today by the way) nobody had heard of anything about Tubby resigning and going to Minnesota, and nobody expected Morris to sign with an NBA team so soon.

The buzz is existent because it's what a lot of people want.

Vitale and Katz have both reported that Donovan is 100% not coming to UK. I don't believe it's that high but I don't think we get him in the end.

Barnhart will wait til Florida's season is over so he can talk to Donovan but he won't come at the snap of a finger.

I think if Donavan wins his second title or not he cant too much more there. He wants to be Emperor of the Roman Empire. All roads lead to Lexington. If he would have been ask 10 years ago if there was ever a situation where he would turn down the head coaching job at Kentucky, his answer would have been a flat,,no way I would ever turn that down.He is loved at florida no doubt but no where like he would be here.I think he is going to be our next coach.
#12
heres another thing about the pockets in Florida...and this is just my opinion, but IMO, those are more/less FOOTBALL pockets. Meaning, that I believe it would be easier for some team to contact and lure Donovan away from the basketball program than it would to lure Meyer away from the football program. I believe they have some very deep pockets, no question, but I dont believe it would be impossible by any means to get him out of Gainesville. No matter what you say about the sports at UF, they won a national championship in basketball, but guess what, they won one in football too. And the latter is what everybody talks about year long down there..I believe its about prestige..
#13
Rumor and "buzz" in Lexington is that Donovan's agent arrived this morning to talk with Barnhardt.

Yada yada yada ...

Remember when Steve Spurrier was checking out high-end properties in LEX a few years ago? :lmao:

All roads do not lead to Lexington, just as all roads in college football do not lead to Tuscaloosa. Some of you are acting as stupid as the Bammers who thought they had Rich Rodriguez locked up.

Coaching UK basketball is a thankless job, and we know who's to blame for that fact. In Gainesville, Donovan is the BMOC. In LEX, he's ... well, he's just another coach who isn't Adolph Rupp. Why would he put up with that?

He's not going to Lexington.
#15
IMO, It may not be a money issue with Billy D...cause everyone knows Florida can match what UK offers and UK can match what Florida offers. No matter how many Basketball titles Florida wins they will always be a football school, and UK will always be a Basketball school. Billy D just might come to UK if offered but who knows only time will tell.

You really think Billy D is bigger than Urban there???
Has Florida basketball eclipsed football there???

You may wish to pay a visit to Gainesville. The football team has to rebuild and Urban Meyer is still "the new guy." From a certain point of view --- one that seems eminently logical to Tubby haters, for some very odd reason --- Urban Meyer won his national title with Ron Zook's recruits.

thats a good post..a very good post, and a viewpoint that I hadnt thought of. You, apparently are from Florida, and a fan of UF, is Meyer really getting that down there??

for some reason, I think Florida will be even more dangerous in the coming years, well, on offense anyways, because Tebow is the kind of qb that Meyer uses in that system..you know, Tim Tebow, the guy you all STOLE from us, lol

These are the reasons for me to believe these reports from what i read on cats pause.

1. Cats have the cash.
2. Billy D has house and horse farm here now.
3. Florida Talent is gone to draft after this season.
4. Deal is reportedly worth $30 million, 6 years.
5. The senior member heard from boosters of the team who donate money and are involved financially.
6. Another report was from Professors from the UK Staff who overheard the B.O.D. talking about Billy D as almost a final deal.
7. Barnhardt has supposedly met with Donovan's Agent many times over last month or so.
8. Wife from Area.
9. He is second fiddle to football. Urban Meyer will come first.
10. Average Attendance was 12,000 comapared to UK's 24,000.
11. FLorida sold out 8 games.
12. Will be head honcho of Kentucky Sports and will always come first, and we will provide him with all things he wants.

Nah, I'm not a fan of northern Cuba, I mean Florida.
My point was Florida football will never be second fiddle to basketball, period.

Billy D knows where THE PREMIERE basketball job in the SEC is.

BTW, I am not a tubby hater.
#22
The premier basketball job in the SEC is in Knoxville. And I don't think Mrs. Summitt's leaving anytime soon.

All that was allegedly true in the case of Rodriguez going from WVU to Bama.

Your speculation (that you seem to be so confident about) that he is not coming to UK is just the same as everyone else’s speculation that think he is coming to UK. Either way you look at it’s nothing more than speculation or personal opinions, at this point. Unless you have or can provide some inside sources that no one else knows about, I will remain optimistic that UK can and will land a premier coach such as Billy Donovan. However, I believe the only person at this time that knows for sure where he will be coaching next year is Billy himself.

Also you state, “UK basketball is a thankless job.” Just a few years ago the UNC program was in shambles thanks to Matt Doherty. If my memory serves me well UNC fans and the media wasn’t showing much appreciation to Coach Doherty. Arguably, the UNC program was in worse shape when Doherty left than UK is now after Tubby’s departure. UNC recovered by making an exceptional hire and stealing a premier coach in Roy Williams from an elite basketball program. Kentucky has just as much if not more tradition than UNC. I think UK will get a premier coach. It may not be Donavan but we will land a premier coach. BTW, UNC has since rebounded from their “thankless years” quite well.

Well, his wife's from Long Island:

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.ht...A96F948260

And if you don't have any proof (like, say, a deed filing --- they're public record) then you can't claim "the farm i know is a fact."

Remember, they said Spurrier was looking at horse property in Lexington. Didn't work out, did it?

Of course, Zook wasn't exactly burning down
the house with those recruits that Meyer
turned into a champion. Tubby took over a
program that had been in two straight national
championship games. The analogy (Zook/Tubby),
while interesting, is not particularly on point.
