(24) The Cumberlands 88 (15) Campbellsville 73

Williamsburg, KY – The 24th-ranked University of the Cumberlands men's basketball team held 15th-ranked Campbellsville to its lowest point total of the season as five Patriots scored in double-figures in the wire-to-wire 88-73 win Thursday night at the O. Wayne Rollins Center. With the win the Patriots improve to 14-2 overall and 2-0 in MSC action while the Tigers drop to 15-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Patriots got off to a fast start recording the first six points of the game, including four from Malik Colvin-Seldon. After a Tigers' free throw, Cumberlands scored nine unanswered points to extend their lead to 15-1 four minutes in. Campbellsville responded with a 16-5 run, over the course of the next seven minutes, to cut the lead to 20-17 midway through the first half. The two teams traded buckets, before Chance Morton and Will Gary hit back-to-back field goals to push the lead back to eight points. A minute later the Patriots went on a 12-0 run, which including a pair of Anthony Eaves three's and Bernard Samuel field goals to give UC a 38-23 advantage with 3:19 remaining. Cumberlands outscored Campbellsville 8-7 over the final three minutes to take a 46-30 lead at halftime.

Both teams came out strong in the second half as they both netted six points. On the ensuing Patriots possession Eric Duncan connected with Kaashif English in the post, who completed the three point play to extend the lead to 55-36. Campbellsville cut the lead to 12 points but a three-pointer from Morton coupled with a Samuel three-point play gave pushed the lead back to 17 midway through the second half. From that point UC went on a 12-6 run, capped off by a Gary bucket to take an 80-57 lead, their largest of the game with 6:45 left. The Tigers picked up the pressure going on a 13-2 run to cut into the lead a make it 82-71 with 3:14 remaining. Duncan closed out the game by going 6-6 from the charity stripe for the 88-73 final.

Cumberlands finished the game shooting 88% (22-25) from the free throw line, including Duncan converting 10 of 11. The Patriots shot 54% from the field, while limiting the Tigers to 43%.

Leading the way for the Patriots was English, who tallied 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for his first career double-double. Morton netted a game-high 15 points, while Colvin-Seldon and Duncan chipped in 14 points each.
