If Kentucky High School Football Teams Were Stocks
#1
If Kentucky high school football teams were stocks, what are some teams you would be buying for next season, as in you think they will be much better? What are some teams you would be selling, as in you think they will not be as good? What teams would you be holding, in other words you feel they will do about the same they did as last season?

Example: If you would have bought Belfry stock going into last season you would have lost money. Despite having a good season, not only did they not win a state title for the first time in four seasons, they had a very early playoff exit at the hands of Central. While Belfry had to replace a lot from the previous season, I still think them getting knocked out as early as they did shocked people.

Example: If you would have bought Raceland stock going into last season you would have cleaned up. I think they surprised almost everyone by knocking out Paintsville and making their first ever state championship game appearance.

Example: If you would have held your Trinity stock going into last season you would have made money but nothing spectacular because while they dominated the state, it was nothing unexpected. They performed as most thought they would.

So, who would you buy for next season? Who would you sell? Who would you hold?

Buy: Pikeville Panthers- I would definitely be putting in a buy order for Pikeville Panther stock. They had a decent year last year finishing with an 8-5 record and making an appearance in the state semifinal game losing to Raceland by a score of 14-17 at Raceland. They were extremely young and should only improve. Can they beat Hazard, Paintsville, Raceland, etc to advance beyond the state semifinals next season? Who knows. It will be tough, but no stock is a no risk investment.

Buy: Boyle Co Rebels...those Sophomores are going to be Juniors and bigger/stronger/faster.

I'd probably be willing to sell: Logan County, Campbellsville, Madison Southern, and maybe (maybe) South Warren

As far as buying, I'd say Belfry has the best shot to exceed this last season. And, I'll play it safe and say I'd buy any 0 or 1 win team. Just playing the odds that they'll improve somewhere.

Buy- Pikeville. Belfry. Woodford. GRC. Highlands.
Sell- Ashland. Mad South. Cov. Cath. Powell.
Hold-Johnson Central. Paintsville. Trinity.

In terms of selling: Raceland, Newport CC, Corbin, Elizabethtown

Buying: Pikeville, Johnson Central, Highlands, Belfry, Paducah Tilghman, Harrison Co. (0-11).....they can't get any worse.

Why sell on Powell? Most of the team returns including key skill players. Are they going to the state title game? No probabaly not given they add Boyle and Lexington Catholic to their side of the bracket but they could get back to the regional title game.

The way I read the post. I’d sell teams I didn’t think would get back to what they did this year.

Ok. I see the logic. I would say hold then as I see them having a shot at the regional finals.

I'm long on all the serious private school football programs. They don't operate in a fair trade economy. They abide by no regulations and are not taxed like other industries. So I'm very bullish on their long term success.

Honestly 6A is screwed. Trinity is a 1930's Standard Oil Co. They own all the fields, the rigs and even the tankcars and locomotives used for transport. 1-5A should use multipliers (luxury tax) to balance the competition like every other serious football state in North America.

Hold: Corbin Redhounds- It is my understanding Corbin loses a lot including their qb Sizemore, but they have underclassmen ready to step up. Corbin returning to the title game isn't out of the question. So, in my book Corbin is a hold.

The winner of the east will have a much easier title game than in the semi-state.

The east will be a gauntlet in 3A this year to get to Kroger Field. Belfry, Corbin, Boyle Co., Bell Co., Lexington Catholic all household names all on the same side.

Agree on Fleming sell. Graduate everyone basically.
Agree on Pikeville buy.

You have peaked my interest on buying East and Greenup and selling Raceland and Ashland. Give us you insider trading thoughts on those.

Coach Champlin had EC playing much improved football last year early until injuries dismantled the team. Alot of young players got valuable varsity time last season. I look for them to be much better this season.
Greenup only lost a few players from last seasons team. The senior class in 2018 is loaded and with Sammons coming into his 3rd season as a starter after throwing 2000+ yards and 27 touchdowns i think you will see GC make some noise this year.
Raceland- just dont see them making the state championship again so by the standards of this thread they will not do as well as last season.
Ashland- alot of key losses to graduation and them being in the same district as JC and previously mentioned Greenup. I just dont see them making it as far as last year.

Agree, buy West stock too. Both Carter Co teams have an upswing of talent coming (Yeah West lost two key seniors but who doesn’t). Both teams are sophomore (upcoming junior) dominated.

If you’re going to sell Ashland stock be prepared to buy it back again in a year or two.

I’d sell Raceland and Russell though for sure.

West will be about the same team as last year with personnel. Cline #2 will replace Brown at RB. Not sure who will replace Cline #1 at WR. Most of the team will be a year older so improvement is expected. They will be in the mix for a home playoff game with Bath Co and Russell.

I would also buy a lot of Bath County. Only losing 4 starters and incoming Jr and Sr classes played most of the minutes last season going 7-4. Schedule sets up very well for them also. Will be contender for district and EKC.

From what I saw of Bath County last year, if they get consistent on Defense they could be the district favorite.

Dudley and his boys will make (at least) the Regional finals. Maybe further.

Defense will be MUCH improved.

That's a mighty big prediction for a team coming off of back-to-back 3rd place finishes.

They'd have to show me something before I bought in, at least more than it being "Dudley and his boys" and all of the stuff that accompanies him.

I think bell is on their way back, but I think they're still a year away from being a real threat. They may make the region finals but they'll have to beat Casey in the regular season to do it. There is no way that they will beat Corbin next year.
