#1
Calvin Ratliff, a member of the Magoffin Co. Hornets football team has decided to continue his playing career at the next level, signing a football scholarship with the University of the Cumberlands (formally Cumberland College) in Williamsburg, Ky. The Patriots finished the 2006 campaign 6-4 overall, 3-2 in the Mid-South Conference Eastern Division, and ranked 26th nationally in the final NAIA poll. The Patriots broke two school records and placed nine players on the All Mid-South Conference teams. Cumberlands will open their season as they did last year in the “Battle for the Brass Lantern” against Union under the lights in Corbin, KY on September 1, 2007. Here's a look at their 2007 schedule:

September 1 Union College 7:00 PM Corbin, KY
September 8 @Campbellsville
September 15 Mars Hill College
September 22 West Virginia Tech
September 29 @Lambuth University
October 6 Belhaven College
October 13 @Cumberland University
October 27 Georgetown College
November 3 @UVA-Wise
November 10 @Pikeville College

Earning a scholarship in his first season of organized football, certainly shows what Calvin is made of. Calvin is projected to be play on the offensive line in college. This sighning makes 4 Magoffin Co. seniors to sign to play their respective sports at the college level the others include: Chase Carpenter, (Golf) Univ. of Ky., Brittany Manns and Ashley J. Howard (Basketball) Berea College. Congratulations to all senior athletes at MCHS on your achievments and we expect more to announce their college choices in the near future. Good Luck!
