Thought's on Shelby Valley
#1
does anyone know what draw they get in state tourney?
#2
Winner of Elliot County and Ashland Paul Blazer
#3
It will more than likely be Elliott County to represent the 16th, and IMO Shelby Valley should beat them.
#4
yup, I agree with you STATS,EC will come out of the 16th and Valley should have an edge over them
#5
Valley has a shot to win the first two games
#6
I am glad to see that the 15th finally got a decent draw for state tourney. This is the first time that SV won't have to play one of the big central KY schools right out of the gate. Should be a good game between two mountain regions.

Looks like they might get Warren Central again in the second game. They should have beaten them in the regular season, but lost I think by 2.
#8
2nd or 3rd round
#9
they should win the first round .

I was looking at the Sweet 16 bracket earlier and the draw Shelby Valley got is a really good one. They will play the Champion of the 16th Region, which will be either Elliot County (23-6) or Ashland Blazer (22-10), neither of which the Wildcats have played this season. That game, although a tough one, is a winnable one for the Wildcats. Should they win, they would then play the winner of the 14th Region and the 4th Region. Warren Central (26-4) is the best team in the 4th Region, and according to KHSAA, they only beat Valley by 3. Hazard (24-8), Knott County (13-14), Breathitt County (25-3), and June Buchanan (24-6) remain in the "open" 14th Region. Hazard is the only of those four teams Valley has played, and the Bulldogs beat them by 8 in the WYMT Classic. In my opinion, I don't see it being that long of a shot to see the Shelby Valley Wildcats playing in the State Semi-Finals. What do you all think?
#11
I'm sure that Elliott Co., Ashland, Hazard, Knott County, June Buchanon, Breathitt, Warren Central, and Greenwood are all thinking the same thing... I do agree, however, that this is the best draw the 15th has had since 1999...
#12
if Valley plays that they did in the regional tournament then they will be lucky to exit the first game on the winning end...IF they play like they are capable of doing then they could go as far as the final four...it will be interesting good luck...
#13
Valley should win.

Final Four. Thats pushing it. Elliot is a great team, they will be lucky to beat them.

Just curious, anybody know where Valley played Warren Central at earlier this year? The KHSAA web site doesn't show a location, just the score. I just assumed it was one of those 1-day 'classic' type things on a neutral court.

If Elliot shoots the ball at Rupp like they did tonight, Valley will be in big trouble. They made 11 of 23 from 3 unofficially. Hopefully Valley will put up a better effort defensively than Ashland did, which I think they will. A lot of people are already declaring a win for Valley, but they will have to have a really good game to win this one.

North Hardin I believe.

EC is a great shooting team, but average at best when you actually defend the three.
SV is a lot quicker than the Paintsville team that wore down EC at the All A.
I know, I know, EC's Ferguson had a nearly amputated ankle and could hardly run with those crutches. But I still think if SV gets after them the way I know they can, I think SV would just be to quick for them.

I agree that Valley can match up a lot better with EC than Ashland, but I just think most people on here are acting like they already have this game. I think it is a toss up.

Don't know a lot about Elliott Co. Can anybody who has seen them play compare them to a team from the 15th?

They remind me a lot of Paintsville with the pace they play and the number of 3's they shoot. Also, they have very little size besides the 8th grader inside.
#24
Thanks for the reply. Apparently they're fairly even with Paintsville (beat them at the All-A in a close game), and I would say Paintsville's talent level is fairly similar to SV's. I did check their team schedule on the KHSAA site and I don't think they and SV had any common opponents.

I do believe that SV has been the best team in the 15th all year long, but I still am amazed that they almost lost in the first round of the tourney.

Just goes to show that you you never know what might happen any given night...

Agreed.... and I'm sure that Elliott County is as excited about this draw as the SV fans...

At this point in the season, EVERYONE must play well no matter who the opponent is.

I only watched Shelby Valley twice this year. I know thats not enough to really know how good they are. But, after all the hype I have heard about how good they are and how great their players are all year long, I must say I was thouroghly disapointed. They had very solid defense when they locked it in and most of the players could shoot the ball. But all year I've heard about Shelby Valley overpowering everyone, and I didn't see any of that.

I do not see SV being to quick for them at all, E. Justice is a little quicker than Et Faulkner
Ev Faulkner is quicker than L. Bryant & both Faulkners are stronger. BBall smarts are about the same, Faulkners better rebounders, shooting may be a toss up. SV gaurds make less TO's so overall I give EC slight edge at gaurd. Ferguson is quicker than his possible match up J. Bryant or either of SV big guys who may gaurd him. So as I said quicker NO! Where did you come up with the fact that P'ville wore down EC? I did not see that at all. Either way it will be exciting.
