SStack how do you compare this Cov Cath team to the 2006 team?

The current team is significantly better.

Cov Cath will destroy South Warren. If South tries to defend the pass. That won’t work. Receivers and QB are too good. And the running game will kill South too. If South loads the box. Ask South Oldham what happened. 5 TD passes to 5 different receivers. They have NO weakness

South warren has some dudes. They have a stellar o and d lineman. Their running back is a ball player. The qb makes good decisions. They are well coached. They are legit. I still see this being a lopsided victory for cch...assuming they stay laser focused and hyper vigilant. I think cov cath is really the only team that can beat cov cath this year.

Cov Cath wins this one

Curious as to what, if any, disciplinary action will be taken against the south warren players who were video taped trashing the bowling green locker room after the game Friday evening.

Bowling Green beat South Warren 45 to 7 in the regular season. Or something like that. I don’t know what happened Friday. But it makes no difference. Cov Cath beats either by 4 touchdowns

Colonels 35-14

Cov Cath by 20

Covington Catholic - 35
South Warren - 17

Curious as to why you think south warren can compete with cov cath this year? Have you seen cov cath play?

This thread is about Covington Catholic and South Warren.
Back on topic please.

No more warnings.

I'm listening to a western Kentucky podcast on the upcoming game. The guys theorized that south warren will try and pressure the cov cath QB by bringing 5 guys. They also said that they think south warren will try and run the ball between the tackles. Very interesting game plan.

That isn't what I would do.

But what do I know??

Yeah I'm not sure that would be my plan of attack either.

Bring 5? They better bring 7. Cause 5 won’t get to him. Line too good.

If they consistently bring more than 4, Mayer is likely to have a career game. South warren has a legit d-1 lineman that most teams had to double and triple team. If I were the coach I'd focus on my linebackers and secondary.

Best way to control a so called Superman. Is to run right at him. Take all his other talent away. Make him one dimensional. Double him. In passing Cov Cath line exceptional. QB is very mobile. Receivers are all good. Running backs are all good. And then there’s their stud defense. I never liked them. But they are what they are. It will take more than one D1 player to beat them. Right though. Their LBs and DBs better have their track shoes on.

Trying to pressure aj Mayer and the Covington catholic offense....while simultaneously trying to run the ball will result in a very early running clock. You can't pressure them. They will have a field day. Running the ball will only speed up the frequency of which they score. Their (south warren's) best bet is to challenge the D-1 beast and let him reek havoc while dropping 8. When cov cath runs, they need versatile linebackers that can either drop or scrape and fill. It's a tall order....but that's the only way. A versatile strong safety/linebacker is just as important. Either way, south warren has a motivated freight train baring down on them. I'm not a cov cath guy but I've enjoyed watching this team this year. They are a force to be reckoned with.

After discussing the upcoming game with someone more familiar with south warren, apparently they rush 3, keep a spy, and drop 7. Apparently that's what they did against bowling green. No idea what the podcast that I listened to was talking about. That sounds like a better game plan to me. Looking forward to the game. Will there be an internet video broadcast?

We done something kind of like that when I played. We had 4 on the line but the ends wouldn’t rush. Just contain, and drop everyone else. It actually worked for us. They beat us at home earlier in the season and then we beat them doing that. But the difference is, the kid we were playing was just a fast QB. Couldn’t really pass. I don’t know how that strategy will work for SW. with enough time Cov Cath will eventually find someone open. Not mention the draw plays that would be open. I haven’t seen either to make an expert pick. But based off the season, I don’t think SW stands much of a chance. I’d go more on the aggressive side of it and roll the dice. Put 5 or 6 on the line and drop some back for pass and mix it up with blitz. Keep Cov Cath guessing, and hopefully cause some turnovers to keep ya in the game.

I hope the game is a lot closer than what many are predicting. A lot of folks thought this was going to be a BG - cchs match up. Look what happened there.

Congrats to both teams for making the semi-finals!
