Raceland 29 Flemig County 12(GAME REPORT)
#1
The contest between Raceland and Fleming County appeared to be a matchup that a lot of fans would interested in. How would the line of the Rams holdout? Could the Panthers led by talented QB Josh Crump get the ball to his receivers and then open up a running game, that could be dangerous this season?

10:27 Was left on the clock, when a bad pitch on an option play by the Panthers put the ball on the ground and coming up for it was, Cameron Webb of the Rams.

Facing a 4th and 15 the Rams elected to go for it and that choice was made correct when, Damon Black connected with Dalton Adkins for a 16-yard gain and the much needed first down. The Rams ended the drive with some sweet work by the offensive line, that allowed Judd Adkins to go 16-yards for the games first score. The point after by, Luke Lemaster made this a 7-0 game. with 9:08 left in the opening quarter.

At the 8:56 mark of the quarter it was the Rams defense that came up big, when Dalton Adkins picked off a Crump pass. At this point of the game the Rams defense seemed jacked up almost like they wanted to prove something to someone watching.

The game clock showed 7:40 when Judd Adkins coughed up the ball and making the recovery was Jack Hamm for the Panthers. Early on turnovers have to be somewhat expected being that this is the first real action the teams have had this year. And with that in mind another fumbled happened with 6:37 left in the quarter. Crump would fumble the ball this time and making the recovery for the Rams was,Cameron Webb.

With under five minutes left in the quarter Damon Black was sacked by,Jayston Turner,Derek Buckler and Kyle Odaire for a loss of eight.
That ended any hopes of the drive gong anywhere.

1:14 Showed on the clock when Crump connected with Brad Glascock for a 20-yard gain. Just nine seconds later, Crump hit with Zac Alexander for a 42-yard gain. The quarter ended with the score still 7-0, with the Rams leading.

Crump would throw his first touchdown pass, with 11:54 left in the half, when he connected with Hamm on a 3-yard score. Austin Paige kicked the ball low and the kick was no good and the score remained 7-6 Rams. The play totaled 67-yards and took all of 5-plays.
With 8:27 left in the half Dalton Adkins picked up 16-yards and the Rams were off and running. Cameron Webb picked up 12-yards on another nice Raceland run, with 7:31 left in the half. The Rams line was doing what they needed to do to aid the runners. On 4th and five, with 6:07 the Rams again elected to go for it and again it came to be a wise decision, when Black found Gunnur Lewis for a 16-yard score. The point after increase the lead to 14-6. The drive lasted for 7-plays and totaled 57-yards.

The Rams defense once again made recorded a pick at the 5:52 mark of the quarter, when Gunnur Lewis made a nice read and easily made the catch. Crump really struggled at times in this one.

Dalton Adkins connected with Nathaniel Bonzo for a gain of 39-yards, then thanks to a unsportsmanlike like penalty tacked on 15-more yards for the Rams. The clock only had 3.2 left on it, so the drive ended without points being scored.

The third quarter started out as poorly as it could for the Panthers and Crump, with Crump coughing the ball up and the Rams pounced on it at the 10:25 mark of the quarter.

The Rams used five plays to go twenty-seven-yards to score after the fumble recovery. Doing the honors was, Judd Adkins on a six-yard run, with his line doing a sensational job paving the way for him. The point after made this a 21-6 game.

I believe it was Cameron Webb, who fielded a punt on the bounce and made a return of 23-yards, with 4:58 left in the third.
Judd Adkins would break a few tackles with hard running to pick up twenty-seven-yards, with 2:38 left. The drive ended with a fumble being recovered by the Panthers with just 1:13 left in the final varsity quarter.

The Panthers ended a short five-play, ninety-yard drive, on a Crump to Kaleb Flannery, that covered 75 yards and at least two broken tackles. Crump's two point conversion pass was picked off by Gunnur Lewis, to keep the score21-12 Raceland.

The JV part of the game would see Beau Brownstead lay a hit on a would be tackler on his way to an eleven-yard pick up, with 9:44 left.
Derrick Pennington would take the ball nearly twenty-yards to the Panthers four-yard line, with 7:23 left.
Caleb Rowsey hit Alex McNutt for a twenty-seven-yard gain, with 6:03 left in the game.
The 13-play,68-yard drive ended with a Rowsey touchdown pass to Bonzo, with 4:28 left in the game.Rowsey hit McNutt for the two point score to make the final score in this one 29-12, Rams.

Replacing 4 linemen on offense and 3 on defense looks like a tall task for Fleming. Sam Johnson left a big hole on O and D. Eugene Hamm was a stud and will not be replaced.
They will get 14 Jaden Campbell (was Waller) back this week. He just punted in the grid. He will help athletically, but again, I don't think that was the issue Friday.
I think athletically, they can beat a lot of their schedule but won't win any big games unless the line play improves dramatically.
Turnovers hurt them, but first game contact can lead to fumbles. If the fumbles continue, then that will be a concern. Crump is a gunslinger and will take some risks. He will hopefully mature with his decision making as the season rolls along. He is a threat when he tucks it and runs. That should be an option instead of forcing some balls.
