This is a high school topic. I just added the Olympic winners because of Wah Wah Jones.

In some order.... UK, North Carolina, Duke, UCLA and Kansas are the All-Time Top 5 programs in college basketball. As a fan of Kentucky high school athletics and UK athletics, I take great pride in seeing the older and younger players from the Bluegrass wearing the Blue & White. Add in winning the Sweet 16 to playing for UK and that puts you in elite company.

For the most part, these players are regarded as Superstars in their home Counties. This information should be publicized as much as possible. Seeing the kids you watched in elementary & middle school games playing in the NCAA tournament is something our small towns rally around.

Without a true Professional team in Kentucky, the Wildcats are more than just a team. Water towers, banners on the high school property, road signs... towns across our state show their state championships in any sport with pride. When a hometown hero goes to Lexington and represents their County while playing for UK, just about everybody from their area feels associated with that person. Every shot should go in, every foul called on them is bogus and every questionable call should go in their favor.

Going to Rupp Arena and watching your team play in the Sweet 16 is amazing. Your town is busting with school pride, just about everybody is talking about the team and the players feel like they can conquer the world. Just about every interview you hear, the UK players leaving for the draft or graduate say 'we felt like we were adopted in to the family' or 'everywhere we go, UK fans make us feel like we are family.' Now add in the players from our state and they know better than anybody just how much the Wildcats mean to the majority of the population.


IMO, being from Kentucky and playing for UK is just an extension of playing for your home town school.... just on a much bigger scale.
