5th year
#1
If a kid can move up from middle school to play high school sport. Wouldn't it be fair if a kid is only 17 on graduation day and is 17 at the beginning of the next year be eligible for a 5th year. But only if you didn't move up during middle school. Colleges give kids a 5th year...

Regardless of age if the kid has already graduated then he shouldn't be able play because high school sports are for high school students. Besides it would be a major step back for the kid to continue doing high school activities while the rest of his graduating class has moved forward and gone to college or joined the workforce.

Click starts ticking once you enter high school

4 years of eligibility from that point.

Can not play football on high school team (varsity) in middle school period. Go to baseball or basketball thread , little different. Only 5th year , can come from catastrophic injury , that holds them out of school. In that case one must go before KHSAA and get awarded a 5th year. It is difficult.

Colleges give kids a 5th year, but not if they have played for 4. If you have a massive injury that causes someone to miss 80% or more of a season, they can get an extra year.

But, that 5th year isn't there just for playing some more.

Medical issue is the only way a child or kid can get an extra year. But its got to be bad
