Absolutely quality game and great way to kickoff championship weekend!! I would have obviously liked to have seen Hazard win, but it was still a very close and even game. Congrats to Beechwood, aka Beechnut!

Now boys, listen to me when I tell you who is gonna win 1a. Go back to the thread I posted before playoffs began. I called 1a almost exactly right. I missed 1 game. That game was the upset win over Paintsville for Hazard. Now, early call, watch out for the Bulldogs next year. Hazard was young.

Really, both of these schools should be really tough next year. Both were heavily led by Soph/Jr classes. Great game, great play by play and color comentary, great season in 1A. Twists, turns, epic trash talk on msg boards, all the "contenders" in the east had some great battles. Very entertaining season as a football fan. Congrats the Noel Rash and co for getting number 12. Doesnt that tie them for 2nd place for all time titles in the state? With Mayfield and I think Trinity?

so it is like the last time when Hazard and Beechwood play. when Hazard running INT or FUM back for a TD in 2008. the refs call it dead inside the 5 yard line. just before halftime.

no. Trinity is first, with just one more then Highlands(maybe 2 more after this year. Highlands is next. but I think Highlands won a lot more then 23 state titles. this just go back to 1960.
then St. X with 12. and Beechwood tie them with there 12th tonight.
then Danville, Mayfield, Boyle Co.,

Similar. But trying to replay it back and the ref wasn't ready and I don't think hazard ended up with it any ways,, beechwood drove the field from the 19.

First of all, Beechwood recovered the onside kick. A Beechwood player clearly had the ball. Hazard kicked it before the ball was blown in play. Nobody from the East gave those "Little Beechies" a chance at stopping John Riggins and the Washington Hogs ground game. Smith had 120 yds on 29 carries, that's well below his average. Hazard had to get completely out of their comfort zone and start spreading the field and trying to run and throw. I tip my hat to Hazard, they have a fine team, but most of the Mountains thought Hazard was going to steamroll Beechwood.

I didn't I put my money on Beechwood. go look at what 64 said, that way I put my money on beechwood.

I am a true Bulldog fans. I played for Hazard 98 and 99. i bet again other teams i like also. betting on games, don't have nothing to do with the team you like. it is about winning money.

One was a live ball all, the one last night was a dead ball call. Not really similar at all.

Congrats to Beechwood on their 12th State Championship.They are a very well coached and disciplined football team. As for Hazard they've had an outstanding season, and they will most definitely be in the hunt again next season. 1A was a lot of fun to keep up with this year!

Everybody has their opinion of ballgames and what could've or should've been. It's really easy to be the Monday morning QB. However, one thing that I think could've made a huge difference in Hazard's game would be to add more of a passing component. Their passing was sparse but mostly effective when it was used.
Poor Corey Smith!! He did a truly amazing job but it sounded like that child got beaten to death! He shouldered a lot of the responsibility of moving the ball and did a great job. He needed just a little bit more help.
Congratulations are in order for both teams. Truly a wonderful game!!

Congrats to Hazard on a great season! As Pikeville proved last year, you have to be multi-dimensional on offense to beat Beechwood. Daric Pugh didn't take over the game until the 4th quarter. Up until that point, Wyatt Battaile was throwing all over them. Beechwood stacked the box and dared Hazard to throw on them, Hazards passing game wasn't developed enough to answer. With that being said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Hazard is right back in BG next year. Hopefully my Panthers will have something to say about that...

Like Mayfield was, beechwood is usually better than anyone from the east. No disrespect just a fact. Beechwood will win over half the titles in 1a as long as they are in it if they can have luck on their side, and stay healthy unlike last year.
