I've made it home and can type my thoughts on the game... Neither defense really stopped the others... Offenses were good. Pikevilles was offense is fasted paced and quick, while hazards was slow and grind the clock.. If these teams want to make it to BG then defenses will have to get off the field.... Now don't get me wrong I'm not say both defenses were bad I'm just saying that neither could stop 1 another.. Pikeville deserved the victory because they were discipline and they do not beat themselves. I expect these teams to meet again in the playoffs.. If hazard is to win they do not need mental mistakes and turnovers.... I honestly think there about as even as they come but the mvp is The QB for Pikeville as he makes the engine go...

Hazard didn't punt all night. Pikeville only once. Critical mistakes by Hazard and couple of missed assignments the difference in the game.
Blair and Johnson as well as Braxton Whitaker looke good in passing game. Corey Smith ran well and got stronger as the game wore on.
Battile is very very good, a tough matchup because he runs well and is very accurate especially on the short routes.
Toss up game as expected. Both will get better. Either could make a run this year. Defense for both will have to correct some issues but both are well coached and will get things fixed.

Think both teams healthy going in. Hazards soph tackles just getting back to playing after surgery and Rhodes banged up for Panthers but back tonight. Blairs ankle still not fully healed either but I think both teams near full strength
Sincerely hope Rhodes is minor deal.

I don't understand why u try to field a short punt anyway.. Let the dang thing go...
10-01-2016, 08:00 AM
cuz like I told you before. way have anyone back there anyway. because most kids think they can take it to the house every time. there is more turnover on punt return then kid taking it to the house. so put 11 many on the line. let 6 try to block it, and the other 5 play 5 incase of a flack punt.

Hate to see this, and his first game back at that. Don't think he's had a chance to play up to his full potential this season because of his injury. Hope it's not as bad as we fear.

Hazard keeps letting me down when I need them. That didn't help my picks.

Can't win a game when u have 4 turnovers and several penalties..

Hazard
430+ yards total offense
244 yards rushing
Corey Smith 142 yards Blair 85 yards
190 yards passing. Johnson 90+ yards
Hazard was able to run Smith inside even with Pikeville stacking the box to stop it. . Bodes well for the future.
Yes no problem moving the chains on Pikeville. Turnovers, penalties, and defensive mistakes made difference.
Turnovers are inevitable but must be kept to a minimum. Defensive mistakes will be corrected..... if Hazard is to make a run.

Where's jet at? What's ur thoughts on the game?

I'm very proud of Blair. I was very hard on him early in the year. I thought his size would hamper him at quarterback but he's proving me wrong every week and I hope he hers better every game. Great competitor!

Pikeville was up 29-7 heading into the 4th qtr. Stats don't always tell the whole story. Smith was held over 30 yards below his per game average. Smith is an outstanding back, he's going to get his yards every time. He's averaging 21 carries a game, so that's a given, against Pikeville he had 21 carries for 33 yards less than his avg per game. So actually, he had a harder time getting his yards against Pikeville than he has in other games.

All in all, as someone else said, it was two heavyweights slugging it out in the end. Pikeville made fewer mistakes and took advantage of turnovers, which good teams do, as well as limiting their own mistakes/turnovers. Have a feeling these two will see each other again down the road.

True. Some of that offense for Pikeville was after Rhodes and Slone was taken out of the game after being dinged up.

Both teams looking for the opportunity to have a shot at the Tigers or Rams.

Sounds like it was a really good game with two great programs

It was a tough game. Pikeville is solid. Up front they are better than I expected after their losses to graduation. Skill kids are good. Advantage also in a good senior class like last year.
Hazard has to clean up turnovers, which led to Pikeville getting two early scores in the game. Pikeville is too good to give up easy scores to and expect to win. Just too deep a hole for Hazard to dig out of.
Hazard is more of a power grind you down offense and will get more finesse stuff in as the year goes on I suspect. Pikeville is a big play finesse oriented offense that I suspect will get more power sets in as year goes on.
Congrats to Pikeville. These two likley to meet again.

Thoughts:
Could have been 43-21. Charles walked into the end zone when Battaile didn't feed him on 4th down at goal line. Also Pikeville took a knee deep in Hazard territory to end the game. Pikeville did play prevent in 4th and it hurt having Rhodes and Slone out along with others.
On the other side of the coin, Hazard had a good shot to win without the turnovers. Really impressed with Blair, Smith of course we knew was good, and the Bulldogs have several other good players as well.
Just one guys opinion, I definitely think these two meet again. I expect Pikeville's defense to get better. Huge that it would be at Pikeville, Hazard has improved enough that you really want to get them at home.

Defensive mistakes that the guys don't normally make really hurt Hazard. even as young as these guys are they have two years almost under their belt and have to clean up mistakes. still a young team and it showed Friday.
Blair is very good. Throws as well on the run as anyone esp. as a sophomore. Sneaky good runner too. Secondary dominated by sophomores Whitaker is a junior .
Pikeville is just a big play team. Have to stay focused or they break one on you.
Again congratulations to Pikeville.

Matter of fact, one starting corner was a soph and the starting safety was as well (9 and 23). Both of whom did not even play football last year.

Absolutely. Also can't blame it on Hazard players making mistakes they usually don't make - that's what good teams do to you. Obviously Pikeville will expose some things on Hazard's defense that other teams on their schedule can't.

I'm not sure on the 43-21... I would say 36-14 if hazard doesn't get the red zone stop... Hazard marched the ball down to make it 29-21...yes they did take a knee because there really was no more point because the game was over.. Hazard couldn't get a stop on those jet sweeps on the final series.
I hope these two meet again... Hazard must hang onto the ball because good teams will turn those into points..
I also think Charles is a bigger weapon in the backfield because teams don't want to give up a big run and they will load the box..
Any updates on the injuried?

I turned the radio off when the score was 29-7.... :truestory:
