Interesting matchup. Knox BIG, but these are two programs that were trending upward on a similar path a decade ago. We have completely fell apart while Knox has climbed continuously into a solid team year in year out. What caused our skid and what are the steps to get to where we need to be? Knox, Leslie, both Laurels, and maybe even Jackson County are better than we are right now.

Not even close except at kickoff. As bad as it hurts to say, we are regressing. And we didn't have far to regress to. We are really, really BAD.

That IS a shame. Last time I was up there for a game was Jacob Hyde's senior year. ALL of Clay County's line was huge. I'd say KC will win, but, I'd like to see Clay County be competitive. It's hard on the kids to lose EVERY Friday.

I need you to be positive! I'm usually this guy. But there is obviously a problem with football in Clay County. The sad part is I'm not even sure what we can do to fix it at this point. Hats off to those kids that go out there and continue to play every Friday.

Administration has to want to win before Clay can be successful again.

KC will win this game pretty easy, but I would like to see the Tigers become a competitive team again. I enjoy coming to Clay County we are always treated good they have a nice stadium, and great fans. Good luck to both teams and praying for no injuries.

Is the administration that big of a barrier? I always thought they were a sports minded group.

They are sports minded, just not the right sport. IF they want to get serious about football they will have to hand out some serious money for HC and jobs to get assistant Coaches. The same old guys have been around for ever and can't get it done.

You might be on to something, and that IF needs to be bigger.

Just like I called it in the West Jessamine thread, basketball players are looking for ways to avoid the good teams. The only thing that kept them in the Wayne game is they couldn't get hurt during the 2nd half of the West Jess game where it was called off. Nobody can coach heart into them.

All I heard all summer was how much better we were supposed to be this season and how much more heart our guys would have. It's just bad right now, really bad. If Ed gets 4-5 years, I could see us competing for region titles.

To me its very simple to get success at Clay County.

1. Have two 8th grade teams and two 7th grade teams (Team A and Team B for both classes) This would allow more kids to play and fall in love with the sport. Even though I love to win, it really doesn't matter for the overall picture.

2. Make freshman and JV a priority. This hasn't been the case for many years. I use to beg the coaches to be in a conference but the powers at be did not want to be. I understand that many times these young players need to be hitting dummies for the Varsity because of the low numbers but that only hurts you later on. Make these young players know they are special!!

3. Play simple football but do it Right!!! run the football and play great defense. Also, we have to put time and effort into our special teams. Clay County has always been a joke on special teams. ITS a THIRD OF THE GAME!!!!!

4. we need good quality grade school coaches. we have a few but some our outright JOKES!!!

5. Quality Assistant coaches. You need people around you who you can trust and put the time into it. The salary is 8000 and I think they have about 4 or 5 assistant stipends of 3000. Trust me.... People in Clay are not going to sit back and allow someone from outside the county to bring their people in and give them jobs while we have our on young people who have the education to be jobless. The new coach will have to work with assistant coaches from Clay. Would someone outside the County want that? If i were the coach I would put all the money in a hat and divide it up among all the coaches. Everyone suffers for this game.. Everyone gets paid the same.

6. Encourage your players to play multiple sports!

7. Have a IN-school weight lifting class. if they get their lifting done at school.... Encourage them to go out and get jobs. I'm sure many of these young men see laziness at home but change their minds about that.

8. We have to have our coaches at the School!! how can we lead this young men if we do not work there?? Be seen! Grade checks! Let these students especially the young men know YOU CARE!!

9. KILL philosophy = Keep it Likeable and learn able and the KISS philosophy = Keep it Simple Stupid.

10. Up-date the weight room for all the team sports!

In my humble opinion and you know what they say about opinions is your recipe for success at Clay County.

Sounds easy, when can you start? It has to be a joint effort with everyone involved removing ALL barriers possible to have football success. I'd like to see them bring a young guy in and let Ed mentor them while all this was being implemented and then let them take it over and run with it after they get the experience. Kind of like a coach in waiting deal.

To hell with excuses. Get results.
#26
Two middle school teams per grade and an in-school weight period are doable right now. Great ideas that should have been implemented years ago. The biggest thing that must be fixed is the culture of the area. Way, way too much sorryness to deal with.

30 + years manipulation and sour behavior has hurt football in clay county.

I think whoever is on the hiring board needs to hire someone from out of town and not his wife. Or how about hiring people that quit in high school to lead our young men.

It's a shame that our program is in this bad of shape.

My brother, we have done all the hiring that we are doing for awhile, Ed is IN and doing a great job. Now there is some guys out there that could be interested in the future but like I've said they should have to wait and learn under Ed for a minimum of 2-3 years before being given the reigns if and when Ed hangs it up.

No offense to Ed but what's his background again.

What was the score of that game last night??

Ed was Eugenes main guy on staff for a couple years. Not an Ed guy? If he would have been hired two years ago I bet we would be better off right now.
