I'm just going to repost a report from DeSales dad. It's pretty spot on.
DeSales informally opened the new stadium last night with the annual brown-white scrimmage. Here are the pros and cons.
CONS
1. Still no obvious answer at QB. The Colts have two guys that bring two entirely different skill sets to the table. One new piece of the puzzle was a sophomore QB who is most definitely the QB of the future. He looked really good last night. Could he play a role this season? Possibly.
2. The offense could not move the ball. This was a defense dominated scrimmage. The big question is whether that is a lack of offense or another stout Colt defense...or both.
3. Injuries - DeSales will start the season with some key injuries, including one that was a season-ender for a projected starter. A returning starter at RB broke his collarbone in 7-on-7 and will miss the first five games.
PROS
1. This defense is F-A-S-T! They lost a lot of size up front, but the new D-Line is quick and aggressive and the secondary would almost HAVE to be ranked among the elite in the state, especially in 2-A.
2. The future is bright. There are some freakish athletes who will be first time starters this season. It appears this team will exchange size and experience for speed and athleticism. We'll see how that plays out.
3. The new stadium - while that may not seem important to some people, I am a firm believer that playing a playoff game on your home field is MUCH better than hosting a playoff game on someone else's field that you are renting from them. The crowd for this scrimmage was huge. Opening night will be ridiculous. There are already people planning to pull into the parking lot as soon as the students leave school that day!
DeSales scrimmages 6-A Meade County on Friday the 12th. That will paint a more accurate picture of what we can expect to see from the Colts this season.
