15th Region way down
#1
Not since the 90's has this region been this down to have 1 team stand out as the unanimous team to beat (Lawrence Co)....
#2
I don't know. 2011 was a pretty down year, but you're right it's the overall weakest I can ever remember.
#3
If this isn't the worst the region has ever been then it's close. There were some times in the early 2000's when it was down as well.

I agree. 2011 was very weak.
#5
The early 90's pretty much cause during 1990 there was 4 teams that could win it Pikeville, Feds Creek w/Jody Thompson, Allen Central and Belfry, with Pikeville being the on a different level from the other 3, then in the first rd of the Regional at Johnson Central, McDowell down and out by 22 at halftime comes back to upset Pikeville on a last second shot, then the top dog in the region was gone, this could happen to the top dog this year pardon the pun the Bulldogs of Lawrence Co....
#6
That's why they play the games.

Good luck to all in the tournament this year.
#7
What a great game to be part of! This might go down as one of the top 5 Region games in the 15th! McDowell comes back the next night and lose to Feds Creek by 1, had another tip in at the buzzard also.
#8
I remember that game and Rick Pitino was there to watch Jody Thompson and we held him to 11pts, should have held him to ten lol...

Are you saying the early 90's was worse than this year?

If you are you are wrong.

Why post the 15 is way down . They are some really good teMsvinvthr 15 . They are weak teNs in every region .
#11
The only reason they say the 15th is down is because LC & MC are the top 2 trams in it and the big schools that usually are on top aren't there. These teams are very good thus year, stop putting down these kids that have worked really hard to get here.
#12
Well region I was playing at that time in the 90's and I was involved in some of the games and yes this region was dominated by one team every year in the early to mid 90's Pikeville in 1990, Belfry for the next 3 years then throw in the year Allen Central who had Jeremy Hall went to state pretty much those teams had no equal and no competition in the 15th during those teams runs....

And what happened when LC played MC this year?
#14
It was a close ball game up to the last 2 min in the forth, was you there?

Listened to it on the radio and the announcers said that if MC can't hang with them who will in the 15th....

That game was early in the season and MC is a little stronger.

Didn't they also lose to PC early in the season?

They aren't perfect, show me a team that is, they are kids and kids are going to have a off night,

That is true but LC is on a different level to everyone else and to let you know I think JC is the only team that can beat them. Anybody else dont have a shot, LC is a sweet 16 team they just don't want to face JC cause they know they can play with them

That doesn't mean it was down.

There was 10 teams each year from 1989 - 1997 that would CRUSH every team in the region this year.

Well that's funny because MC has beaten JC this year.

Well the quality of play was better then than now and players were better as well...

And they won where at home where MC is considered to have a strong home advantage as does JC and another handful of teams in the region, but if the face LC in region it will be on a neutral floor just like the were on when they lost to LC last time...

LC has a awesome team and have proven that all year, but MC has a great team also and have all the tools to best them in the region, not saying it will happen just saying they are capable of it.
#26
Overall I think the talent is down this year in the region. Lawrence Co. probably has the best team, but the problem they have is a lack of depth. If they get into foul trouble or if they have injuries, its tough for them.

MC did have the team to challenge LC until they lost their big man
#28
I'd love to see Magoffin or even Johnson Central knock LC off this self proclaimed throne. LC may be the favorite but don't get it twisted they've never won crap. It won't be until next yr we find out how good of a coach York really is because they won't have anything. Win it now or go down as the best team that never won a thing.
#29
Yea I've seen some great teams greater than this LC team, Pikeville in 1990, McDowell in 1989, Phelps in 1988, with Phelps being the only favorite to win the 15th. McDowell lost in the regional final to Prestonsburg and Pikeville lost in the 1st rd of Regional to McDowell, so LC running through the regional could be somewhat difficult, but don't get me wrong they are hands down the best but it only takes one bad game and your out...

Lawrence Better get some more kids from West Virgina to play next year .
