#3
Congrats Belfry.

Congrats Belfry

OUCH!!! Teams are not supposed to go 0-4 in their own tourney but I do think the Eagles got some good out of the tourney. They played much harder and much better as a team.
#6
Congrats Belfrey
#7
Did McCarty play? I heard he injured his wrist a few nights ago.
#8
Congrats Belfry

McCarty didn't play against Ashland or Belfry. JC really needs someone to step up in his absence because right now they have noone else who is scoring. JC will be fine in the long run. Playing this tuff competition early on will only help them in the long run. On another note congrats to the Case boy from Belfry, he surpassed the 1000 pt mark today.

Congrats Belfry on the win and Jamie on surpassing 1000 pts. He is a fine player and deserves to be recognized for his accomplishment!
#11
congrats Belfry and Jamie
#12
Congrats Belfry on the VICTORY!
#13
Congrats Beflry on the W and congrats Jamie on 1,000
#14
I was told by a few people who were close to Johnson Cetnral that the kids played harder and better in their opinion the last two games.
Congrats Belfry and Jamie Case. Belfry will develop into a real nice team before its all over.
#15
I think Central played better with out Mccarty also, more rounded team with out him, when you have one player shooting the ball 40 times a game the are no way to get any production out of anyone else...
#16
Congrats to Belfry,,BIG WIN...Congrats to Jamie on 1,000 point club
#17
Congrats Belfry.

Maybe with McCarty out, it might help Starnes to figure out a way to re-define his role when he comes back. No doubt that JC needs him, but you can't have a guy that takes away the contributions of the rest of the team. You have to have balance to win consistenly. JC should be fine in the long term if they can figure out this strategy.

Just think, since JC didn't get blown out by Ashland or Belfry, if you had the best player back and say he had 15 - 20 points it would be a win. But if he comes back and shoots all the shots trying for 40 + point games, then the rest of the players will fade back to what they were doing before and you will lose the balance and most likely the game.

McCarty's abbsence does hurt the team. Johnson Central is 0-3 without him, 4-1 with him. I don't think in McCarty's mind at all does he try to put up 40+ points a night. I've known this young man for a while and his mindset is solely for the team. I remember turning on my radio the minute I got a phone call saying he scored 56...and caught the post game interview on WSIP. He mentioned it that it wasn't the name on the back of the jersey, but the name on the front was what mattered. He gave his teammates all the credit that night for his outstanding accomplishment.

So to say he takes "40 shots a game" and implying that he isn't a team player would be a misunderstanding. Great humble young man who understands his role on the team.

Hope to a speedy recovery.

He can talk all he wants about being a team player, but his play proves otherwise, he shoots the ball 30 to 40 times per game, most being threes, if he is shooting more than 20% from the field it would surprise me, that isnt a team player, cause the last time I checked there is no "I" in team or in Johnson Central Eagles... He is a good player, not a great player, when he can learn how to utilize some of his team mates talents, he may become a great player, until then he is selfish...

You really make some good points in this statement.

My guess is if these two teams played 10 more times, Belfry would not win another one.

McCarty averages probibly 25 shots a game...IMO.
But..for the facts: 57% from the feild, 45.2% from three's and about 70% from the free throw line.
Facts don't lie.

Johnson Central is 0-2 with out him and 4 -4 with him. They have played 10 games and he has only sat out two of them. He played periodically throughout the entire Iroquois game.

If you want to make the point that McCarty is a good player, then go ahead no one will deny that, but if you want to say that he is a total team player then you dont know anything at all about his mentality or have ever watched him play. He has never been a team player and never will be. He has always been a glory hound, and has always been more concerned with the scorebook than the scoreboard. You can also say that Central is worse without him? Ask one of the assistant coaches his opinion. You will hear a completely different view. Central played much better and with more enthusiasm with him out of the lineup. It has brought a team mentality and unity to the squad. I suspect when he comes back you will once again see things revert right back to the way they were.

Maybe not Valley Cat...but they could beat OBI, Craig County, or Haysi!!

Congrats Belfry

This kind of talk is CRAZY! Have you even watched JC this year? JC played very inspired basketball with alot of heart against Ashland. I only got to see the first half of the belfry game, but they looked very flat to me. Saying McCarty is a glory hound is unfair. He is this regions best scorer period! Was Keith Adkins a glory hound his senior year when he averaged 30+, after losing Couch, Pelphrey, Minix, and Baldwin from the year before. In the Iriquois game McCarty only played about 6 or 8 min. He took a few bad shots but he is definatley not the Jamie of last year. Every team has their own identity they have to find, but JC is without a doubt better WITH Jamie.

When you shoot the ball 40 times a game, you will be the best scorer in the region, he is the streakiest player in the region, PERIOD!!! You can try to say he is a team player all you want, everyone knows that is CRAZY TALK... I Would bet that if McCarty played against Belfry that Belfry would have won by a even bigger margin, for one Case would of shut him down driving to the paint, an none of his teammates would have scored, you cant beat good teams by yourself...
