2015 Graves County Eagles Preview
#1
Well the Graves County Eagles are fresh off of a year that proved they could do what many thought they would never achieve. The word in Western Ky had until last year, always been that the Eagles would never be able to make it to the carpet in the big school classes of 4a in the 4 class system and either 6a or 5a in the 6 class system. That thought has finally been put to rest. The Eagles however will more than have their work cut out for them this year, to make it back.

The Eagles lost a ton. On Defense they lost 8 of 11 starters. They are Gray, Hayden, Coles, Carter, Day, Wiggins, Crider and Reed. On offense they lost 7 of 11 starters including the cog that made the offense work. They lost Reed, Crider, Gray, Holmes, Wiggins, Marshall and Day. Last year Crider alone accounted for 2,500 yards and 31 touchdowns. This had him ranked #1 in rushing yardage and #2 in scoring in the state in 5a. They also lost their qb in Reed. They also lost their backup qb in McKee. They also lost their 3rd qb in Bonstetter, as he transferred out of state. They also lost their big time kicker. This by any accounts would be a very large problem to replace all of these starters.

The names that still remain are Dakota Dixon and Hunter Grant. These 2 were productive for the Eagles on both sides of the ball last year. They do benefit a bit from the realignment though. That because they lost Hopkinsville from their district and picked up a team that hasn't been successful for over 10 years now, in Marshall County.

The road does look favorable for them to rebuild though, with a schedule that has some opportunities to pick up some wins to grow from. It looks like this for the Eagles:

Hopkinville home 4a, 4-8 last season with 3 of those losses due to forfeit
Trigg Co away 3a, 7-5 last season
Murray away 2a, 9-5 last season and semi finalist
Paducah Tilghman home 3a, 7-6 last season and district champs
Mayfield away 2a, 14-1 last season and 1a state champs
Apollo away 5a, 2-9 last season
Marshall Co away 5a, 2-9 last season
Christian Co home 5a, 4-8 last season
Owensboro home 5a, 12-3 last season and 4a state runners up
Calloway Co home 4a, 3-8 last season

This should be an interesting year for the Eagles to see how well their feeder program is working. The schedule looks to aide them somewhat in this growing stage.

I think Graves will take a big step back, but what do I know last year I predicted a step back, and I looked stupid when they made it to the state title game.
#3
They were not as good last year as the year before. They just had less competition in their way to BG.

Strangely I agree with you. I never felt they was as good last year as the year before. There D might have been alittle better, but there O was way better the year before. Last year they was so predictable, and had very little passing game. I don't buy the whole idea they was so much better after Dillan Reed became Quarterback story the graves fans claim. They played tougher teams before he was the starter.

There is always a reason that they improved drastically after losing to their cross town rivals. Then there is the great sense of vast improvement as they get ready to start the new year. That is until the two cross town rivals meet again. Then of course, they didn't play well or they were missing some key element. Then the cycle repeats. It has been that way every year since 2008.

Not sure why when Graves Football comes up you here Dixon's name... He has 200 some odd rushing yards and 2 touchdowns in his career. You can't make him the next good RB from Graves till he does something. Grant maybe the best player returning, and he should have more of a role on the offense this year. But between replacing all the seniors, a freshman QB, and lot of inexperienced players this could be one of those bad years at Graves County.
I'm thinking 4-6 but going 2-2 in district.
#7
I think you are right on. Grant is an athlete. Dixon is a good rb, but no where close to Crider.
#8
Is there no Graves County fans on here?
#9
Can you all believe this? You have a team that is coming of their very first 15 game season in school history and none of them are going to say anything on here about their team.
#10
mediocre at best.
#11
Graves fans aren't like Mayfield fans. We don't have to get on message boards and brag about how big our balls are to make us feel good. Yes we lost one of the best football classes ever to graduate from Graves. So this will be a rebuilding year with lots of inexperienced players. Graves will be better than most expect but no where near as good as last year.
Yes Mayfield has a great football program, Hail the Cards, but it is almost sad they don't put the same dedication into other sports. How do you have that many athletes and cant beat Graves in basketball?
Then when it comes to the girls programs they don't put the time or money into the girls programs to even help them be competitive.

Graves fans have jobs!!

Sorry that was too easy.

Huh, two slaps back to back on MHS, when all I asked was to see some GCHS support. That is typical of the program. Just like every time I get the WK&T version of each years game, I have to hear from the commentators how GCHS got hosed or the refs missed so many calls on MHS. How we always have to hear the same BS year after year. GCHS graduates close to 300 each year. MHS graduates less than 100. They should beat us in sports more times then not. Therefore it begs the question, why can't they in football?

Im lost on the statement on how you say why cant Mayfield beat Graves in basketball with that many athletes. What does that mean. Graves has 3 times the students as Mayfield. The better question would be how come Graves gets pigstomped every year by Mayfield in football when they have that many athletes.

Mayfield always has more athletes than Graves. Yes Graves has more students, students don't mean athletes. Graves gets "pigstomped" because Mayfield has better athletes, more speed, and better coaching.

The better question...How come anytime anything about Mayfield is brought up all a Mayfield fan can say is we beat you in football... Really is that all is taught there? Even when Graves is beating Mayfield by 25+ points in basketball someone always holds up the score of the football game. Not sure why a school wouldn't want to be competitive in everything they do. Graves may only have a good football team every few years but they usually are competitive in about every sport, every year.
There is more to high school than football except at Mayfield.

mysonis55 took the time to do a very good preview of Graves County because nobody from Graves County cared enough to post one. Now, they come out of the woodwork and bitch because they can't beat Mayfield. Nobody cares about all the other sports Graves County is dominating. This is a football thread and a little 1A school has owned 5A Graves County for years. Except for the last couple of years, Graves County has been an embarrassment for all 5A schools. You can't beat them so you attack them. Good luck and enjoy your annual butt kicking by those mean old Cardinals. Nice preview mysonis55. We appreciate it

You are right it is a football thread. Go Cards!!

I just don't get it. I tried to do a good job for the preview. I never mentioned Mayfield. I only put it in on the schedule. Then someone comes in and starts getting defensive. We certainly only think about football during football season. But yes, most of our kids don't care about the other sports. That's just what they think about. I personally don't have a problem with that well, until baseball season. But if you will check, you are on a football thread, so yes we talk football.

Purple, thanks. By the way, you guys need to research the local papers to see what Graves rb says they are gonna do with the purples this year.

They've had their 15 minutes of fame. Back to getting beat by Mayfield and dreaming of beating those mean old Purples. We won't hear from them for another 20 years.

I don't think the Purples will ever see Graves this year. That would have to be in Regional Championship and Graves will be getting ready for basketball by then.

You appreciate it??! The guy created a "preview" on Graves County so he could bash them, get others to bash, and talk about how great Mayfield is. The only reason Graves people don't comment is because they have better things to do than troll other teams (I'm looking at you adopted grape apes).

Why don't the mighty redbirds and the grapes just play each other?
#26
No, in all honesty, I made the preview as a positive thing. I was getting ready to do one for PT, Marshall and attempt one for Murray. I say attempt one for Murray because I don't really care to much for Murray. I can do some research though. It's the same thing I try to do each year. The fact that you got your drawers in a ball and started attacking others drew me into that.
#27
The Buzzards fans showing their true colors on here is typical behavior. A Mayfield guy does a nice preview and they go into attack mode. Very sad but honestly typical. Joey had stayed above it all but even he gives way in the end. A shame that the Buzzard faithful can't accept a Mayfield guys nice post for what it was and have to let their disdain or jealously shine through. It has always amazed me at how jealous the county folks are of Mayfield. I guess some things will never change and in this case its accepting that the Buzzards are no Mayfield and never will be
#28
If they beat the little turdburds you will just say "They should beat a 1a/2a school." No credit will ever be given. I'm not anti-Mayfield or pro-Graves. I'm anti-troll.
#29
Ok Joey, you are not a GCHS fan. However, you are on a GCHS thread talking trash. But, you are anti troller. So, I ask, who is trolling here. I fail to understand how putting together a preview thread is trolling. It was truly in the interest of creating discussions about GCHS football. Not a negative thought.
