Was online earlier today and read the posts regarding the Lawrence County Team and the upcoming season. I wish the best of luck to the Dawgs---but expecting success with a group of extremely young players might be expecting too much of them.
However Lawrence County BBall tradition is NONEXISTANT. How many 15th or 16th region titles? Gooseegg! How many district titles? Refresh my memory on that last time that happened either. Heard people saying that leaving the 16th and going to the 15th would be such a big help.-----don't think so. 57th district with Pville and JC is tough. Think LC found that out last yr. with what they thought was a great team!
I know Coach Anderson is a great coach---WV state championships. But LC has NEVER made the commitment to bball that it takes to be successful. Don't know if things have changed recently with a new coach---but used to be that the best ball players at LC didn't even play for the team. Saw plenty of pickup games where boys at the school beat the high school starters. Hope that at least has changed.

LC is usually a competitive team, but they have always been in the worst possible district. If it wasn't Ashland and Boyd County, now they have to deal with Paintsville and Johnson Central. Even Magoffin and Sheldon Clark will give them all they want and win their fair share. So I don't think moving to the 15th/57th did anything for LC, it only helped Ashland and Boyd County.
As for Lawrence having a basketball powerhouse? I don't think so, at least they never have had one, despite a few sucessful seasons. They have always put way more interest and investment into their football program. But there is no reason they couldn't do well in both if they made the commitment.

No they may not be a power house but I know for a fact they beat several good teams last year in the Paintsville's JC and Shelby Valley and even Letcher Co.
And as far as Regional Championships I would go out on a limb and say zero but as far as district titles I know for a fact they have a few under there belts. Coach A has changed things and they all cant happen over night. If you look at the program before he came her it was a mess and look at it now its 100 times better. Yes we have a young team but All the young team can do is get better.

I think LC will pull their own this season. They have a very young team. The Dawgs always brings a great crowd of supporters to every game. Watch and see! These boys will do great. Coach Anderson is a great coach. He thinks a lot of the boys and they know that!

I have no doubt about Anderson being a great coach---remember him from the WV days. Was shocked to see him come to LC---not a BBALL school. Wish LC the best this yr.---but dont thinking the move to the 15th will help them that much in the long run.

You know before LC was known for its great football teams all we was known for was great Basketball...back in the late 70's and early 80's LC had some good teams..yell we never took it to the state but we had the talent just not the coaching..now we got both..so yell we will be a team to reckon with this year and in the future.

So as far as their fans being supporters I don't really know, I'm sure some are but then again, just a few of them ruin it for the rest of the TRUE fans of the DAWGS. I really hope that whole situation gets lined out! G/L guys!

Whats your response have with the thread. Also there is nothing wrong with the kids having fun but there never was no threats or threatening comments made, also you have fans that are rude in every school. So if you want to post in here stay on topic.

Forgive me, but I don't recall those GREAT teams of the late 70s and early 80s. GREAT (in comparison to BBALL schools) means district and regional championships. How many does LC have???? I know NO regional championships...and I don't think any district championships either. What players are you referring to? Sam Sparks, Eddie Vinson, Kevin Ferguson all played on teams in the late 70s and early 80s. Even if LC had played in 15th region and 57th district when those players were playing they would have still been bottom dwellers. Possibly the 84-85 Dawgs with the German exchange student and a team loaded from 8th grade through Senior class could compete at an upper level if they were playing during the 2006-07 season and may compete for a regional championship in the 15th. But if a frog had wings...... LC has always been a football school---even when it was Louisa High School. Some great individual talent, yes.----Great teams---does not apply!!!!
