What does everyone expect from Lewis County in 2015? Graduation hits the Lions hard, but with Mason County leaving the district and Pendleton County and Bath County moving in and Fleming also getting hit hard by graduation, Lewis will probably be more competitive within the district than this past year.
2015 Lewis County Lions Football Schedule
Week 0 August 21 @ Greenup County
Week 1 August 28 @ Boyd County
Week 2 OPEN
Week 3 September 11 Nicholas County
Week 4 September 18 @ Powell County
Week 5 September 25 @ Fleming County*
Week 6 October 2 Pendleton County*
Week 7 October 9 Bath County*
Week 8 October 16 Russell*
Week 9 October 23 @ West Carter*
Week 10 October 30 Fairview
*= District games
Key Losses due to Graduation
QB #2 Isaac Weddington (Missed final 6 games in 2014 due to tore ACL)
RB/DL #28 Dalton Stamm
FB/DL #97 Mason Thurman
RB/WR/DB #8 Tyler Mustard
WR/DB/QB/K #1 Jordan Davis
OL/DL #55 Dustin Shope
OL/DL/LB #54 Zach McClurg
WR/DB #3 Devan Duncan
DE/TE/WR #24 Jared Stapleton
DB/LB/DL #12 Austin Egbert
Key Returning Players
FB/TE/LB #44 Kirk Everman Sr.
RB/WR/DB #18 Austin Evans Sr.
TE/DE #81 Andrew Swingler Sr.
RB/LB/DB #14 Zane Frye-Scott Jr.
LB #27 Steven Bradford Sr.
OL/DL #63 Jacob Cooper Sr.
OL/DL #76 Waylon McCane Sr.
WR/QB/LS #10 Tommy Parks Sr.
WR/DB #41 Isaiah Esham Sr.
I expect an up and down season for the Lions with anywhere between 4 and 7 wins and a 3rd place finish in the district. The key will be how hard these guys work in the offseason. A lot of kids will be seeing consistent varsity action for the first time and their dedication in the weight room is vital to how they will react to that.

I am always rooting for the Lions, having lived several years in Firebrick and attending several years of school (Garrison, Lewis Jr High) there I really want to see them become a serious contender at the high school level. Unless they are playing the Pirates I will root for the Lions. Best of luck to the Lions and hopefully they can build a program soon.

Thanks, AtlPirateFan. I also lived in Firebrick and attended Garrison Elementary as a youngster. The last few years have been more successful for the Lions, as these seniors will graduate as the winningest class in over 30 years at Lewis County with a 24-19 record over four years. Next year's squad should be able to make some noise if they stay committed in the weight room and Evans and Everman can handle the bulk of the load while staying healthy. That has been especially a problem for Evans.

I don't remember much of Evans from this year's game at Russell but I do remember Everman. He looks like he could be a force on defense. Swingler could provide a big, imposing target for whoever is under center.
Who, if anyone, is the frontrunner for QB next year?

I believe Evans was injured for the game against Russell. He's a small body who fought through multiple knee and head injuries throughout the last two seasons but he is tough as nails. Everman has most of the the tools you want out of an inside linebacker and is the hardest working kid on the team in the offseason. Right now the favorite to play QB is Tommy Parks, he started the games against Fleming and Mason this season before Coach Hughes went to Davis for the rest of the year. Tommy's biggest factor is getting confidence in himself. I know Jake Parker is a basketball player that would probably be given the QB reigns right away if he would come out for football but that is highly unlikely.
