Drug Testing
#1
It is my understanding that the county schools are drug testing student athletes as well as drivers and anybody associated with any co-curricular activities. What is everybodies opinion on this. I would also like to give props to the County BOE on leading the crusade against drugs.....Sure Pikeville IND. BOE started it, but they are slacking off.....It was my understanding that they didn't have a single drug screen session the first semester, while each county school was tested twice in the first semester alone. Also, I think that the Pikeville BOE is scared of their students....The won't test student drivers and I don't think they test Their co-curricular activities......What is the public's opinion??????
#2
I don't know, but I do know Pikeville Ind. lets quite a few slip by.
#3
Right on....
#4
I'm all for drug testing in any walk of life..Whether it relates to sports, schools or whatever. Drugs ruin kids, families, and lives.. Im glad the county is taking a stand..
#5
I think all schools should drug test. especially when it comes to extra -curricular activities. this is a much needed thing in Floyd Co.
#6
I could seed doing the athletes, but thats it

Are they afraid of the students or the parents???

Lets see.......
An freshman athlete or a senior who drive dad's 4x4.

Test them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bus drivers, teachers, cooks,

I'm all for it! I don't know where you got your info from pm but Pikeville was tested twice in the first semester....And yes they only do athletes (supposed to do drivers too but I think that stipulation goes just if they have reason to do it) but a priority isn't given to any special athlete....it is totally random with the exception of students who have had trouble in the past and are tested everytime. But I think that everyone should be tested at the school...teachers, admin...everyone (bus drivers already are).
#10
Even if PHS caught someone, they would just change the rules like they've done in the past.
#11
Care to explain? Without using names....they've had kids transfer b/c they failed and wern't going to be allowed to play sports and they have sent many to counseling.
#12
I can explain in PM's but not here.
#13
Sorry about the confusion....I was told that Pville did not test at all in the first semester. Back to the point of being scared......There must be a valid reason to test drivers and co-curricular activities, because the county ids doing it. Also....There is no way thatyou can tell me the schools method is tottaly random...This is something both pike and pville BOE's need to take charge of....I have seen no school's method be totally random. The only school that even comes close to being random is East Ridge.

i think the Pike Co BOE is doing a great job at PC they have realy cracked "no pun intended" down on this. Many students have been punished and rightfuly so been punished. I think that teachers need to b drug tested also well never mind i think EVERYONE should b.
#15
I dont really think either of them are doing a good job myself. Both tend to slack off a little. Which is why i still see drugie's running around my school.
#16
What really kills me is, you can always see the obvious druggies in school, or work or whatever, but these guys/girls always seem to be around. I mean its not hard to walk down the hall and look at someone and be like yup, this guy's on drugs, or whatever. If they are goin to spend close to 1000 bucks on a test then make sure they are testing the person who they think is on drugs instead of testing someone who they know isn't just to make everyone look good.
#17
the thing is though CTD its random drug tests and when we sign the little letter it says it's like ur name is being drawn out of a hat the Computer selects who gets tested.
#18
Funny how it seems to select the one's who aren't on drugs though lol

It doesn't cost 1000 dollars...It is around 300 per school.

How do you all this? Whether it cost 300 or 1000? and how east ridge is doing so good?

Schools must get a deal. Cause I know it costs my company close to 1000 bucks per test.
#22
Your company must be getting ripped off....The County uses one of the most reputable companies and the PIke BOE gets away with any where from 300-400 dollars, depending on how many students they test.

Trust me Mario....I know.

Also, it depends on what you test for and how many drugs of abuse you ARE testing for....The county schools test for 5 drugs of abuse.

THC (Tetra Hydroxy Canabinol....AKA: "weed")
COC (Cocaine)
BZO (Benzodiazipines)
OPI3 (Opiates)
MAMP (methamphetimine)
#23
The company I work for uses all three methods and tests for all those things you listed PM, so that could be why it costs more... They do urine, blood, and hair.
#24
ok...Then I would say definately 1000 dollars... Hair screens alone can cost upwards of 300-400 dollars. Your company is smart....They test for:
-what was in your system 3 months-6 months ago (hair)
-what was in your system 2 days - 2 weeks ago (urine)
-and what is in your system at that very moment (blood)
#25
There are all kinds of ways around these tests though!....and the ones that know they will fail will find one of these ways to make sure they pass....the only way to watch this is to hold the cup for them....sad but true
#26
Yup.. and if they find anything that isn't legally supposed to be there then you are gone, no questions asked. And if you have a doc's excuse they call the doc to make sure everything is ok and that the person isn't over doing it.
#27
Yup....we've had people fail due to something they have to be on...and after it is cleared with the doctor they are clean
#28
Same here. Some people at my school has done the same thing.
#29
yep....as long as you have a legal prescription that is up-to-date by the month.....
#30
That's what I'm talking about.....
