Covington Catholic/Highlands Predictions
#1
Who do you think wins and why?
#2
Highlands by 3-4 TD's. You seen it here first!
#3
CovCath will crush Highlands this year.
#4
Cov cath is do , but don't no much about this new highlands coach how does he handle this game or can he make the right adjustments at half time , I think with dale coaching you had give highlands 20 points on his ability to plan for a game . But good luck to both and see the looser in Paintsville ,

Highlands 28

Highlands had two close games with two fairly mediocre programs. Then they goy healthy with a couple of cupcakes. Cov Cath is playing better football now. CC 42 HHS 28

The Campbell game could easily been a blow out if not for a ton of penalties.
CCH played Moeller and got hammered the other three wins are against teams not as good as Bryan Station or Campbell Co who Highlands beat. Highlands has shown good improvement each week. Does off week help or hurt CCH? Hard to pick this game. Highlands is down a bit this year, but CCH has not proved they are better yet with wins against 3 teams HHS would also beat. Big question is if HHS best D player and TE will be able to play this week, it will be huge if they are able to go. I expect a high scoring game that might come down to who plays a cleaner game with fewer penalties/fumbles and special team mistakes. HHS has big kicker to make CCH go 80 yards, not sure what CCH kicker is like. I would be shocked if HHS only scores 28, would not be surprised to see both teams in the 40's. It is going to be a fun week. Like a lot of HHS fans have been saying, this is the first time in a long time that we do not feel comfortable going into the game (I am sure the players are).

I know you saw Highlands play this week, but have you seen CCH? What do you see that makes you think they will crush them or are you just trying to stir the pot? Who on CCH team is going to give HHS trouble? Is CCH going to be able to contain Hodge? I think the big question is if HHS will be able to run the ball against CCH. There will be some good speed on the field by both teams, the state champ and state runner up's in 100 and 200!

Birdies by 7. Because they are Highlands.

He's just stirring the pot- history has proven he is as ignorant about football as he is about forming sentences.

This should be a great game- and I expect the rematch will be as well. Keys for a Cov Cath win IMO:
- contain Hoge (somehow). Can't let him roll out and sit their forever to pick and choose his WR's
- keep Venneman in front of them- easier said than done. Usually he gets behind the defense after Hoge buys extra seconds - thus the need for point #1
- nothing cheap on the ground. Highlands is kind of an RB by committee group but they get it done.
- limit turnovers (true on both sides)
- Cov Cath must get the run game going. To date this year, they have relied more heavily on Wagners legs as much as his arms. Darlington will need to come up big and the speedy WR's will need to make something happen in space as well.
- I do think Cov Cath has a slight advantage in the trenches on both sides of the line- must take advantage of that.
- Highlands has the better kicker. Cov Cath's kicker probably won't have many touchbacks. His PAT's are solid- hasn't tried a FG yet.
#11
Neither team has been impressive with who they have played or beaten this year. Highlands 4-0 against 8-11 completion. CC at 3-1 is not much better with their schedule coming in at 6-8 record not counting their game with out of state team.
I go with Highlands by 3 for having the home field advantage. CC must not get too jacked up for this game.
#12
I voted for Cov Cath cause I think they are due, but regardless who wins this game... There will be ANOTHER showdown later in November between these 2 great programs for the regional title.

Very good post, I agree with you. Containing Hodge will be big key for CCH. Kick offs might be big in this game, but I do not expect CCH to kick it to Vennamen.

I think Campbell and BS are better than people are giving them credit for, time will tell. I have been saying the same thing about CCH must not gett too jacked up for the game. I also think home field might be the difference in this game and winner will have big advantage come playoff time with less travel and home field.

Highlands beats CovCath 35-14.
#17
I'm going to go with Cov Cath simply because its time for the odds to go their way. Everyone falls but that doesn't mean they won't get back up and win. CovCath wins the battle (35-21) but loses the war in the regional.

Birds Db's will have a long night. Hoge will be running for his life and the Bluebird running game will be non existent. Hoge will be keyed on by the Colonel defense and Venneman will be double covered. With that said, Colonels by 14 to 21. Birds score 21 tops. I'll be rooting for the Birds.

The highlighted above are my two concerns. Somebody besides Venneman has to step up. And Hodge will be tough to contain. If HHS can not move the ball with their running game they will be in trouble. I still think Birds win in high scoring game, 35-24
#20
HHS has to show that they can consistently keep contain. If I'm CovCath, I run at HHS from 3 angles, I dive/read option, I just sweep, and I roll Wagner outside of the pocket w/ a very quick option to run. The OLBs for Highlands have lacked discipline the last few years once teams start having success on the dive option, and athletic QBs have exposed that. Wagner is a lot more athletic than he is given credit for. Of course, we're talking about Wirth and his staff, so they'll probably have great success running the ball and then start throwing the ball half way through the 1st quarter and lose all balance by half time. I don't get them.

Predictions are kind of worthless for this game..
2 great teams 1 great rivalry... must see reg season game of the season in NKY. I will def be there with some whiskey in my belly.

But Predictions are fun.....
Qrt 1 - Highlands strikes first... and second with Hoge magic.

Qrt 2 - Just when everyone is thinking just another H year cov cath O and D lines start to wear down H. Cov Cath makes a couple stops and Cov Cath puts together a couple of scoring drives in the second quarter.

Halftime Highlands 21 Cov Cath 20

Qrt 3 - Cov Cath hits the ground running and scores a couple TDs.. and H stalls

Qrt 4 - H desperation leads to miraculous Hoge to Venneman TDs. Cov Cath answers late and gets a 2pt conversion.

End of Regulation 42-42

OT- Cov Cath stuffs Highlands on downs and Kicks a FG to win the game

45-42 Cov Cath 1OT instaclassic.

I know I should pick Highlands cause Im Bird fan... I just really feel like this is Cov Cath's year to get one... and hope they get the first one if they have to get one.

Two best teams in Class 4A. They will next meet in the regional finals and that will be the real Class4A championship game.

That's the Truth. There state semi- final game should be the class 4A championship game. I hate to mentioned that just because I follow Lex Cath and what's Boyle Co is doing this season... But these 2 programs are too tough.

Looking forward to watching this game...if CovCath contains Hoge, the Blue Colonels will win. I see this coming down to special teams and the kicking game. Will Dougherty put on a show with his leg? Good luck to both teams! As stated earlier by someone, the game that matters the most will be the regional final with the winner of this game have the upper hand mentally!

28 times in 55 years one of these two have carried home the hardware.

I think HHS has advantage w/kick offs, CCH will probably have to start at 20 on most kickoffs. However, HHS has been shaky on punts and so so on kick returns. I disagree with those that say this game is not important, I think home field advantage is huge this year come playoff time.

A lot of CAKE be eaten in this one....LOL!!!

It will kill those bird fans if Cov Cath pulls it out. I am pulling for CC change of the guard is good for H.S. Football
