Will Belfry make it past their region this year?
#1
Given that 1A Pikeville dominated Belfry tonight, sure looks like it's going to be a long year for the Pirates!
#3
^^
Confusednicker:

Actually Belfry NEEDED this game. It is just the thing to propel and motivate them mid-season.
#4
I highly doubt it. Breathitt County looks to be ever bit as good.
#5
Of course they will. Just a hiccup in their quest for two in a row.

There are only two ways to go from something like this. Knowing who's running the ship on Pond Creek, I suspect they'll choose the high road. I'm sure by the time we see them in The Nest at season's end, they'll be just fiiiiiine.

You are joking, right!!! Belfry would put a running clock on the bobcats. Belfry is still a two td better team than anyone else in our region.
#8
Yes . Give the credit to Pikeville who is very good.
#9
Belfry will be back in bowling green this.

While OP is obviously trying to flame.......he actually poses a legitimate question.

The Pirates were definitely exposed tonight. Offensively and defensively. The OL struggled to match the speed of Pikeville's DL. Belfry has a QB issue. Wouldn't surprise me to see Corbett begin to get more reps and series behind center.....

Taylor needs to be in the HB rotation. IMO, he's a much bigger threat @ running back than QB.

Truly question whether or not the Pirates have the necessary ingredients to reach the state quarters or semis. No need to discuss Bowling Green at this point.

This team has a lot of growing up and maturing to do......

Playoffs?! Playoffs?! I just hope we can win a game... Playoffs?!

Getting beat by a solid small school team is not death. They will learn to work harder after this. They will most certainly win their region.
#15
Belfry loses one game and people are ready to jump ship? Relax. It's one game. Belfry needed to be humbled a little bit and tonight they were. Belfry came out flat (other than the early defensive score) and paid for it. Coach Haywood will use this to propel this team for the rest of the season.

14-1 or 13-2 state champs

Belfry is still the best team in their class. I don't understand why it is so difficult to admit that pikeville is just that good? I thought this game would prove that but instead everyone is just saying that belfry must not be that good, which is not true. Everyone around the players from belfry were telling them it'd be a 3 TD win. So they came out flat and never regrouped. Pikeville wanted it more and had a better game plan. This changes nothing for belfry. In fact, I think this makes them an even more deadly team because it got them refocused. This puts Pikeville in the discussion to play for a 1A title. Other than Mayfield they are the best team in 1A, especially since Willaimsburg barely got by Newport, and tonight proved that. This puts them past Williamsburg. Many people thought that already, and I know for me I needed to see what they did in this game to base how good they are? Their coaching staff obviously does their homework and I'm sure Haywood feels out coached, but I think you will see a much better team in belfry from this point on. Their class is weak and they should have no trouble getting to Bowling Green. This was one of the better games this year and should solidify a rivalry of two great programs.

Belfry will be fine, it's nice to see another eastern ky team on the rise

I believe they was saying that Breathitt stinks this year and was using sarcasm. The only difference is at Breathitt we KNOW we are bad already. We may win our district but our whole district stinks this year.We are just least stinky maybe. At Breathitt we are done. Saying "We bet Breathitt now is like saying we beat (insert traditionally bad team)" If we win district and are the #1 seed we will lose to the #4.

I am sure the coaches from Pikeville don't want people saying that Pikeville should be ahead of Williamsburg(cause then that will put them in the same place as the Belfry players coming into last nights game thinking Pikeville cant beat US,AND THEY HADNT IN A long TIME)

There is a different mindset with pikeville though and last night may give them the confidence they need to run the table. Its different for a traditional great team to lose a game they were told they'd win and an underdog that wins trying to prove themselves. It teaches belfry their not invincible and it shows pikeville they can play with anybody. At the end of the day and when its all said and done this will be a win/win for both programs.

I give Pikeville alot of credit for coming into Pond Creek and coming away with the win. They proved that they deserve to be considered as a legit team to beat in 1A.. With that said, I do believe Belfry came into the game thinking they could coast thru and still get a win, but, what they found out was they aren't as good without there 2 best backs, one out with injury and the other out by transfer. Let's face it, the Pirates have never been known as a passing team, but, rather a run it down your throat power team. It's difficult to do that with your 3rd and 4th string backs. The combination of overconfidence, injuries and a great gameplan by the opponent got them beat. It happens. I also think they underestimated how good offensively that the Panthers are. I don't think they expected them to go toe to toe with them in the trenches and they did. Even as well as Pikeville played in the 1st half and as dominant as they were, the Pirates likely felt pretty good at the half only being down 1 score and getting the ball ist to start the 2nd half. I'm sure they felt they'd take control in the 2nd half, which they did, in the 3rd qtr, but, just couldn't finish the deal and punch it into the endzone. Then once they got into the later stages in the 4th and the Panthers scored again, it was then that they realized they could possibly lose the game and panic setin and Pikeville, by that time, wasn't going to be denied.

Don't fire the coach. Belfry will be okay. They just got beat by a very good Pikeville team.

Haywood needs to go. Theres no way around it. A loss of this magnitude need to be handled with a firing!

I think Hatfield might have an argument that he is better than Joplin was. Catron is very good. But Belfry was not without their two best backs. Maybe one. Just pointing that out. Plus it was at Pikeville, not Pond Creek.
