Ashland 41 Raceland 35
#1
final
#2
Congratulations on a good game Rams. I can see the Rams making it pretty deep into the playoffs.
#3
Looked like crap the whole night to vanilla on D and too tricky on offense. Talent wins out over a gutty and very good Raceland team. Ashland has the horses maybe not the coaching.
#4
Congrats T Cats.
#5
This game will make the Rams better.
#6
Raceland is very good. Ashland work in Progress but can and should be very dangerous. Baker worth the price of admission.
#7
We were better than Ashland just like last year. We have a chance to put it away and we just shoot ourselves in the foot multiple times again this year. No moral victories. This was a disappointing loss again this year
#8
That was one roller coaster of a game. I knew Baker was fast, but Jake Long, wow!
#9
Congrats Tomcats!

The better team typically isn't down by 20 plus in the 4th quarter. Simply a dumb statement.

Could you explain what vanilla on D means?

Raceland's turnovers come on situations that should have resulted in points. Thats 18 pts kept off the bored. Hats off to Ashland for capitalizing on Raceland's mistakes. I think this game was GREAT for both teams. Havent seen the film, but it sounds like Raceland's like on defense held their own and it sounds like they gave Young plenty of time offensively. Proud of my rams for not giving up, hats off again to Ashland, lots of tallent on the field tonight. I think both teams have the potential to make our region VERY proud this year. Love this rivalry, been very good (be great had we squeeked out wins) the last 2 years and from the looks of both feeder systems, that isnt going to change any time soon.

That was due more to two interceptions and a fumbled kickoff return which allowed Ashland to score three times in short field situations. It was 20-7 in the third quarter Raceland before that happened. More the RAM mistakes than it was anything Ashland did, although the long runs by Baker and Long hurt.

Also, finally the numbers game caught up with the RAMS. Hard to not to get worn down when your players are going both ways and the majority of Ashland's kids were going one way. Also, Messer was out practically the entire third quarter. The game was a lot closer than the flip flop of scoring differences that occurred during the game.

Just watched the game on ihigh. Raceland's OL really suprised me. Young had plenty of time for the most part. Bailey Walker NEEDS MORE CARRIES. While we have good speed at the WR position, we really missed the breakaway speed of a Daylin Beach tonight from the backfield. Long and Baker are just flat out FAST. But, if u take away the big runs of Baker...he didnt do a lot. I think Raceland out coached the Cats staff. They shoukdve quit trying to get to the edge and ran more traps/couters between the gaurds(whih they dicd some of in the 2nd half). Raceland has alot more speed defensively this year. This was a great early season test for both teams. I think it did exactly what it should have done and should do each year.

-Provide a Playoff atmosphere
-Raceland competes with numbers, size, and speed it likely wont see until the 3rd round of the playoffs
-Both teams find out what they need to work on early.

Do either of these schools have the ability to make it to BG? I dont know, I do however , know full well that they will both be in the thick of things. Ashland has some thigs to work on defensively and Raceland needs to shore up the b gaps as well. Offensively, Ashland justneeds to get Baker the ball and let him get moving N to S quicker. Racelandhas to shore up the turnovers. I'll be interested to see the stats of the game. Raceland could have folded but didnt, same could be said for Ashland. Already looking foward to next year's matchup. Good luck to the Tomcats the rest of the season!

Take away all the exempted transfers and the ***** cats lose. Congrats to Raceland. You showed heart. You showed class. You will go far this year. Great place to watch a game.

Played their base D most of the night. No blitzes no exotic looks. We're not mixing coverages or looks for the Rams.

dumb statement. Every school has transfers. Quit with excuses.

also I hate watching this game. The officials tried to make a show of themselves. 3 sideline warnings in one quarter? Also not calling the personal fouls on Quinton and long for making the first down signal after a run but then the same official calls it on racelands QB. Also the pass interference against Raceland was questionable at best. But the number if sideline infractions should never outnumber the number of holding penalties. The officials wanted to be noticed. Just a flat out horrible crew even for me being a tomcat fan.

Better showing by the Rams than I expected. I didn't think they had enough to run with them this year.
#20
I can handle the loss, especially since Raceland never showed any signs of giving up, even when they were dead tired and down 21 points. I think the vertical passing game that Young has, will help this team tremendously. I think Salmons called a near flawless first half and whoever is calling the defense did so as well.

I think Ashland's offensive line needs a bit more gelling time. Why did Long line up so much in the slot during the first half?

No doubt, the officials definitely wanted to be noticed.

agreed our offensive line was very bad in the first half. Much better in the second actually opened up some lanes for baker long and Broughton to get some yardage. Broughton is a very physical runner wish they would have gave hind the ball more.

Salmons and Grizzle did a phenominal job with play calling. We made MAJOR strides in the run game. But, we comitted to staying balanced. 182 on the ground and 179 through the air. Hard to get more balanced than that. The turnovers in Ashland territory were back beakers. I feel that the Rams grew up alot tonight. Young did a great job spreadig the ball around with 6 different recievers catchig the ball. Raceland used 5 different RBs as well. Walker needs to get more carries. He lost a step over the summer because of how big he got, but he is a load to bring down.

Baker's 180 yds on 20 carries are deceptive. His stat line should read "thank god for the home run ball"...imo thy under used to draw with Prince and that FB. Long and Baker are very fast, BUT, Raceland's defense is alot quicker sideline to sideline than, imo, anyone immagined.

This was a great ball game. Watched the replay on ihigh andyou couldnt hear a thing due to the crowd. Congrats to bith teams on a "late season" type effort of will and never say die attitudes....

THAT OFFICIATING WAS A JOKE
#24
Though Youg through a bad int, he made up for it imo. I think nerves got to him some going 14-35, he was much more accrate last week, but, this was a muc better secondary. Josh is a great CB as well. Quite a night for mr Young.

14-35 159 2tds/1 int
24 Rushing Yards
1 fumble recovery for a TD
1 Interceptions
Hard to say how many tackles

He has waited patiently for his time and he is taking full advantage of it.

Great, gutty, football game! I agree that the officiating was a joke, and really took away from a great matchup.

Thought Ashland came out flat, and Raceland capitalized on it in the first half. Pretty good adjustments at half, and some key Raceland turnovers got the Tomcats back in the driver's seat. But hats off to the Rams, they REALLY are a tough bunch of kids that never quit. And LOTS of weapons on offense. They will have a great season.
#26
After Ashland went up 35-20, I figured the final would look something like 48-27 or something like that. Raceland had 3 costly turnovers and was still in position to win the ball game. The Rams proved to me that they are probably as good, maybebetter than last year. TOTALLY different teams, if this squad keeps things balanced like they did and clean up the dumb penalties and turnovers this team can be dangerous.
#27
Raceland not seen all of their schedule won't lose many if any more baring injuries and continued improvement. Most teams make most improvement between games 1 and 2. If Ashland would have played last week thinking may have been a better performance by the CATS and by the looks of the NCC score Ashland would and should be 2 and 0!!!

I like the vertical passing game, I think it will only get better during the season, as well as the running game. The defense's sideline to sideline speed really impressed me, I also felt like the defense played with much more poise than they have in the recent past. Who's calling the defense this year?

I love it only Raceland's turnovers matter. Let's ignore that one of Raceland's scores came on a botched snap on a punt.

Let's see, Raceland was better, their coaches were better, yet they were down 20 points early in the 4th quarter.

It just doesn't add up.

Really the Side Judge on the Raceland sideline was the only referee that I feel did a bad job. I was sitting on the 40 yd line closest to the entrance. Many times the receiver for Ashland would line up a yard past the ball and be 10 ft in front of this joker and he would refuse to throw the flag. He is the only ref that can make the call and won't. Not saying this cost is the game, but if Bobby Hall had been sitting in my seat, said side judge would have a lot of explains to do or would be getting an optometrist appointment in a hurry. He is a real JERK!!!!
