Lawrence County 26, Russell 6 final
That's just giving the teams 6 points for each score. It was a 10 play scrimmage and the Bulldogs moved the ball at will, had a few huge runs including a touchdown by Obrian called back due to a block in the back. Both teams did some nice things but the Bulldogs clearly were the better team. Timmy Dalton scored twice including one really nice run, and Grant Kiser looked sharp at quarterback despite one ball that floated and got picked off. Bulldogs defense looked good, physical and athletic.

Russell had some nice players. #48 and #20 looked like athletic kids. They moved the ball later in the scrimmage, when they scored. I think it was the first or second drive for them they got to the 1 yard line and LC held them scoreless.
Both teams have small things to work on. I think the physical play, athletic ability at the skill positions, and speed is what separated the two teams.

Is Russell that far down or is LC that much better??

I think its a combo. Give Russell a few games, they will suprise some people. LC is up this year.

I think Smith is out, but is Suman still out

The Bulldogs are going to be way better this year. We have more depth, much bigger and better line play, way more speed and way better defense. I would take this Bulldog team over last years Bulldog team by 2 or 3 scores.

So I got to see the film of the scrimmage and here is my take. Very sloppy on both sides of the ball, but that is to be expected in the first scrimmage of the year. The QB needs to calm down when he is in the pocket, the line is giving good time to find a target and throw, but the kid shocked me in how well he can run from the QB position. The team speed looked very very good. When all the starters on defense were on the field they were a little shaky on the very first Russell drive but after that they did very good. Defense got a lot of pressure on the QB and a lot of tackles for loss. The Perry kid #9 at linebacker is going to take some heads off this year. The kid comes at you full bore, no fear and has that little speed burst right before impact and he is built like a brick wall. Lawrence county is going to be very balanced this year on offense and can and will line up 3 maybe even 4 wide at times this year. I am very impressed at how our lines have grown up and we will play very few teams who will be much bigger or stronger. The offensive line was opening up some huge holes and our defensive line looked like our offensive line of last year, pretty good size for a high school defensive line. This team has a lot of speedy athlete's and the main problem will be to find a way to get the ball in all their hands. Nice problem to have.
The film will give the coaching staff a lot of things to work on and this team will get better and better by the start of the season and will be a team to be reckoned with by district play and the playoffs.

Russell I think is going to have a good team and at some point this year some things are going to click for this team. They have pretty good line play and size and the big kid who ran the ball is a beast. Will run over or around you and pretty good speed for his size. I think when you get a new coach and staff (even if you have some talent) you are going to have some growing pains and an adjustment period but if the right things click this could be a pretty strong team by playoff time.

One thing that stood out to me was how soft Russell's corners play....they start AT LEAST 10 yards of the ball and immediately go backwards when the ball is snapped. LC was able to get 15 yards on a hitch because of this. This day and time I really think you need to take your chances and play tight and jam the receivers to give your line time to pressure the QB...but I'm no coach - just a thought!

From what I saw it was hard to tell. I believe Russell's starters did decent. LC scored at will when Russell put their Gold group in. Later when Russell started moving the ball I noticed a few subs in for LC as well. I think both coaches got what they were looking for. Love having LC as one of our scrimmages. A good group of ball players and fans makes things go so smooth.

Smith was still out but arm was out of the sling. Suman was still out as well.

Those two are defenetly ones Russell will miss if they can't get back on the field. No excuses, but I don't know if Russell's kids were in a funk from attending the funeral of Smiths dad earlier that day. Couple that with two starters being out and I could see why they may have struggled some.

I definitely think both coaches got what they wanted from it. Russell fans were very courteous and I enjoyed talking football with them. Best of luck to the Red Devils this season. It was good to see a clean, hard hitting scrimmage.
