By a vote of 14-3, the Board approved an appeal by Hazard to move the football team to District 8 for the Class 1A 2015-18 alignment. Hazard had been placed in District 7 in the alignment adopted in May.
District 8 will look like this: Hazard, Jenkins, Phelps, Pikeville and South Floyd.
District 7 will look like this: Harlan, Lynn Camp, Pineville and Williamsburg.

I guess I'm getting confused on this matter. So now Hazard will be in the district with Pikeville. That could be a good district.

With 2 highly rated teams in all of 1a every year in the same district, this should be the best district in 1a.

It gives Wburg the inside position to win district every year but having to beat Hazard Pikeville or Pikeville Hazard in back to back weeks will be no easy task!

this has been a mess from day one. Now districts 8 has 5 teams.

I really think this alignment will hurt the burg. The reason is, both Pikeville and Hazard gain a tough in conference game coming down the stretch. This is much like us playing Russellville. It only strengthens the winning team and for that matter the losing team. This being done while the burg is facing creme puff dist opponents.

And District 6 still has three teamsâ¦Bout time the KHSAA just cuts the number of districts in Class A, lump teams together and make it worth something to win the district or finish in the top 4.
What's wrong with a district having the following teams: Fairview, Raceland, Paintsville, Phelps, Pikeville, South Floyd?
Another district with Hazard, Harlan, Jenkins, Pineville, Lynn Camp, Williamsburg?
Why does everyone have to get a trophy? This is football, not little league baseball.

Then again, you have the travel. Fairview and Raceland to Phelps and South Floyd is as bad if not worse than anything Hazard/Williamsburg would face in their travels. And most likely longer travel times. Hazard should know what that extra 24 minutes a year will do. :-) I kid, I kid.

So now Pikeville gets stuck with a 5-team district and has to drive an extra hour and a half every two years so Hazard can save 24 minutes a year and stay off of that awful US 421. Makes perfect sense. Forgot it was the KHSAA we were dealing with. As with everything nowadays, the people who whine the loudest and make the most noise end up getting special treatment. For the record, Pikeville fans are 100x more aggravated having to play Jenkins than Hazard. My last comment on the subject. Welcome to District 8 crybabies.:flame:

The crying already began with Hazard. I would be happy with keeping Hazard in Dist 8 and making Dist 7 take Jenkins back.

williamsburg don't want 5 teams either. :truestory:

Win the district and the path to BG is much easier than it would have been. Good deal. PHS also owes Jenkins for a stunt they pulled against the will-be seniors in 2015.
Will be interesting to see how this changes a schedule that looked pretty fun on paper for 2015.

If you went back to four classes, you could do that.
If you stay with six, you can't have more than five teams in a district and shouldn't have less than four.
In your plan you would be cut to seven or six districts. How would you break down the playoffs after you get district champions? Would some district champions get byes? It would be a mess. The number of districts/regions has to stay an even number to work.

This is a return to the original proposal.
The crying began with Pikeville appealing.

This will help hazard being in pikeville district in the long run. I know 64SUR....Go Williamsburg 2014. :Cheerlead

What was Hazards reasoning for appealing?

How? There is still a district with only 3 teams in it. If the KHSAA is sending 4 teams per district to playoffs, why is there a district with 3 teams?

Pikeville and Phelps appealed the original KHSAA plan, from what was on here earlier.

Care to enlighten me as to what Jenkins did? Picking on poor defenseless Jenkins. Shame Shame Shame!

There is only one way to fix it. The top two teams make the playoffs, like the old days. The way it is right now a team can go 0 - 10 an still get to go to the playoffs.

I can't find the appeal though. I'm looking through their minutes to find it. I have to see that to believe it. Wow. My apologies that I overlooked that info before.

Hazard was originally in the district before Pikeville and Phelps complained. So now that hazard wins the appeal they are the cry babies because they wanted to keep the original lay out..
