Who will the next coach be?
05-28-2014, 01:18 PM
Heard KY Extreme/Hazard Assistant Coach Jon Walker would be applying for the job.

Evans officially resigned, so I don't think he will be there next year.
WYMT reported the story, citing "personal" reasons. He received a lot of verbal support from the AD and Principal.

Russell Thompson from Middlesboro would be a great hire.

Not a good offseason for teams in the WYMT mountain classic so far.
Two of next year's teams are currently without a coach.

Better call Russell Thompson right now. He is one of the best young coaches around but is not from Middlesboro. He could be out if someone from Middlesboro wanted the job regardless how good he does there. If I were Knox I would call him today. I think he may live in Knox County.

Is he headed somewhere else or taking some time off?

Thompson from Middlesboro has done a pretty good job, the past couple of years. On the other hand not sure if he has had more than one winning season as a boys coach? Maybe HDE can answer that question. Knox Central seems to always have top 5 talent in the 13th region. They should be the regional favorite once again this season, with McDaniel leaving Clay Co. for college. Not sure who would be a good hire for Knox Central. I believe they need a experienced/veteran coach because seems to be a hard place to coach.

Hope they get the right person this time around!! Evans is a good person but not really that good of a coach. Look at all the talent he has had at KC the past few years and couldn't get past the first or second rounds of the region.

Not sure who they will go after but I hope it is someone who has the know how the get these boys going in the right direction.

Knox Central has not won the region in 44 years. That's a long dry spell.

Evans was never liked as a coach at Whitley. Players never cared for him much.

Thompson has a record of 47 wins and 70 losses at Mboro and they finished with a 10-21 record last year. I doubt that KC would be interested.

His record means nothing, he has done more with nothing at Middlesboro than anyone could have. He has had 0 basketball players. Last year he had a street baller that everyone thought was great and another athlete that did not want to play. He would be one of the best hires they could make. They may not see it with their past hiring practices.

My Recommendation would be Assistant coach at hazard Tim Parks live in Clay County. This guy can coach 64SUR :Cheerlead

It will be a political hire. Then the other side will do everything they can to undermine him. Some things never change.

Steve Wright is about due a new job

I don't think you understand what Im saying.
The players at Whitley have liked several coaches. But Evans was on the level of Duke Combs when it came to liking a coach. When you run kids to death and make them practice 7 days a week, there not going to like you, especially when it doesn't help you win ball games.
A lot of players liked Prewitt, Guffey, Baker, and even Overbey now.

Tony Patterson will be the next coach at Knox Central.

Knox seems to me that it would be a great job to have right now. With Barger, Marsee, Hensley, and Adams all returning... IMO, best job i've seen open so far, as far as next year goes...

You just about have to have a strong Knox Co. connection to get hired there, which may be why some things never change.
