Today, Pikeville unveiled the new helmet design for the 2014 season. The helmet features familiar and new characteristics. The base white remains true to PHS Tradition while the new Maroon carbon fiber "P" outlined in black makes its debut. The carbon fiber Maroon can also be found on the stripe running down the middle of the helmet from front to back, joined by black and silver accents. Panther Paw Helmet Awards will continue to be given out an placed on the "P" side of the helmet.

On the reverse side of the helmet, a full sided Panther head will rest in Maroon with silver highlights. This will be the first time since the mid-1990's that a Pikeville helmet has featured a Panther head. According to the designer, Wes Wilson, PHS will be the only school in the state of KY with an "oversized" logo on the helmet as well as using the carbon fiber pattern in the colors.

When the decals are ordered for the season, the helmet will also feature a plate replacing the current "Riddell" logo on the front, above the facemask, with "HAIL" derived from the classic "Hail Pikeville" motto. The background of the plate will be Maroon with White letters.

Players were introduced to the helmet in a surprise meeting held after school. The reaction was very good and the helmet has sparked compliments from alumni, fans, players, students, and even rivals. A big thank you is owed to Wes Wilson. This is a Wes Wilson production and PHS will be proud to be the 4th school, and first in Kentucky, to feature one of his designs on the field. HAIL PIKEVILLE!

I think they are nice but should have kept the P on both sides. Maybe Williamsburg will allow you to win the east in them.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! This project has been a blast to be a part of, the guys at PHS are a class act and are some of the nicest I know. Hardest part about this helmet
was keeping it a secret from April until yesterday. Nobody had a clue what was coming and this certainly shocked the team. Since releasing this yesterday on Twitter, we've neared 7,000 hits....amazing how word spreads. Definitely excited to see these under those "Friday Night Lights".

If we EVER wear something like this, I will be a disappointed man. Not because I don't like it, because there are Oregons in this world, and there are Alabamas/Penn States/Stanfords. We are simply not an Oregon.

With that said, I like Pikeville's new look. It helps that one of my good friends designed it, yes, but I think they look great. Pikeville was wanting to show that it's a new era over there and this was a good look. Hopefully, they can attract some kids to come out who didn't before. Good job to the PHS Staff for doing this for the kids.

Unless it is a special one time game or a tribute I hope to never see Belfry vary from their current uniforms. Belfry is on a very short list of teams that can be easily recognized by their uniforms...no matter the year... by anyone form Paducah to Pikeville.

I appreciate and respect the new Pikeville look. Think they knocked it out of the ball park. But if given my choice of the current Pikeville jersey and the old school solid white helmet the Panthers used to rock I would go with the solid white.

Why? We have our own logo that to my knowledge, no one else uses. We are not an Oregon. I can't think of a single good argument FOR that when it comes to Belfry.

EKUAlum I still believe the Pirates need new skull and crossbones helmet but with the championships they have won, who wants to change that success? Best tradition in the hills IMO but those Pikeville helmets look sweet.

I will say that though I am a old school person I'm so glad we've evolved as a society past the craze of turning every single f'n uniform black... That was the worst. The grey is so much better, but even it's getting overdone now. Tampa Bay's new uniforms are hideous.
